I would agree with Hart and Depriest. Hart could see some immediate playing time even with all the depth we have and Depriest would be a starter from day one, no questions asked.
I also think any NT we recruit is extremely important, provided that he is good enough to contribute early.
Can't count out Beyer either--you can't ever have enough good DEs.
I love when people say true freshmen are going to walk in and start. Maybe Depriest will start as a freshmen but that is a long shot not a lock.

I think you go by position rather than names. Targeting names is setting yourself up for disappointment. Expecially at this stage of 2011 recruiting, way before even the recruits will be taking the field as seniors in high school.
OL will be thin. Linebacker will be so thin it will almost be clear. Unless a running back emerges this year--that will be a position of need in a big way as well. But, in my very non-expert eyes, 2011 will be a recruiting season where the staff CAn really target positions and players, and hopefully meet with success.
I have to disagree about RB. It's probably average as far as need goes, we'll only take about two I would think.
We currently have six running backs (Smith, Hopkins, Cox, Toussaint, White, Shaw) and a couple other potential running backs (Grady, T. Jones). Shaw is the only one who will be a senior when a class of 2011 kid gets on campus. So unless we want 8-9 scholarships tied up in running backs, I think we'll only take one running back...
...with one caveat: We could take a second guy like Chevelle Buie, for example, who could be either a slot or a running back.
But if you look at the guys who have been offered, there are very few potential slots because we're loaded at the position.

I was at the Michigan Showcase last Sunday watching the QBs (about 35-40 kids) and the top 4 QBs there (in no order) were definitely Alex Niznak of Ithaca, Josh Harris from Country Day, Mike Sullivan from Our Lady of the Lakes, and Ryan Morley of Grand Blanc.
-Niznak is a big kid who throws a pretty good ball. Footwork needs to improve though. I can see him landing at a Grand Valley, or SVSU. Possibly a FCS team. He has the size, but needs to improve his mechanics if he wants to be a d1 player that can really contribute.
-Harris stands around 6ft tall and probably about 180-185lbs. He possess a strong arm, but is not always the most accurate. Overall good QB though.
-Mike Sullivan had some real nice throws including his first throw of the day, a 45yard bomb in the air perfectly in stride. He proved to have a stronger arm than people thought of him and was very accurate throughout the day.
-Ryan Morley is about the same size as Sullivan and the two are similar. Morley throws a nice ball and is accurate. He showed good footwork and the ability to make any throw on the field. Expect him to have another successful season at GB.

im not sure about the 2011 recruiting class needs. but, I just saw that Lawerence Thomas officially committed to MSU. F*ck. I dont think MSU has ever got the top in-State recruit two years in a row. We need to whoop their ass next year on the field. Why don't we have a countdown to the rival games on MGOBLOG. that would be kinda cool.
Unless a top tier guy wants to come, I think we won't pick anyone until later.
As for positions...OL has to be the key point of need, and LB. So those are the spots I hope we score on.

I think, that unlike our rivals, we don't need clocks to tell us when we play certain teams. It's imbued into the expectations of every season to beat nd/msu/osu. A clock if anything, is a manifestation of the fact that you need to be reminded to show up for that particular game.
Please refer to our historical records against each team to verify this. Although recent history hasn't been kind, I feel that all the pieces are in place for this team to pick up 9 wins.
It will be good to reclaim what's ours this year.

I agree that "needing" a specific recruit sets you up for a kick in the gut but when you "lead" for a recruit it is priority to make sure he doesn't bolt for "greener pastures". So IMHO Hart, Zettel, and Beyer are must gets.
I hope Dorsey can convince Kent Turene to give us a look. He seems like a great fit at MLB in GERG's system, as well as being ready to play early in his career. The defense is going to have serious future problems if they are unable to get a solid MLB in this class.
