Records Set in Women's Soccer & Field Hockey

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

A couple of Michigan ladies have set new UM all-time scoring marks in their respective sports, an achievement that seems worthy of some notation.

In field hockey, senior Rachel Mack out of Bromsgrove, England tallied twice against OSU, including an OT game winner to give Michigan the 2-1 victory over a struggling Buckeye team.  Mack has been the featured offensive threat throughout her career at Michigan, and her two markers on Sunday put her at 69 for her career, surpassing April Fronzoni (2000-03).

On the soccer side of the ledger, senior Nkem Ezurike got to celebrate her accomplishment at home, scoring twice against Purdue, including the game winner in a 3-1 Michigan triumph.  Ezurike now has 45 goals in her distinguished career in the Maize & Blue, passing Kacy Beitel (1997-00) in the school record books.

Both teams have a few games left in the regular season before heading off to Big Ten & NCAA tournaments.  Women's soccer is especially one to keep an eye on, ranked #7 in the country and in the thick of the Big Ten race.  Best of luck to these two great Michigan stars as they look to further cement their places in Michigan history and to their respective teams as well!

Great to see more records being set by the UM athletes after last Saturday. If possible maybe we can do a weekly update of the varsity teams at UM on how they are doing.
