RB Gaige Garcia transferring to Lehigh
Preferred walk-on football player and wrestler Gaige Garcia is transferring to Lehigh. We knew he was in the transfer portal a few weeks ago, but he just posted his destination last night on Twitter. So all you Mountain Hawk football/wrestling fans can continue to follow his career there.
Probably more appropriate to say wrestler Gaige Garcia. Good for him, Lehigh is a great wrestling program.
Wrestling school...... Good Luck Gaige
Expensive school.
Not if you're on scholarship.
Having grown up in PA and was looking at Lehigh as one of my prospective options back in the day, I was surprised to see the mascot name Mountain Hawk. They were the Engineers then. I guess Mountain Hawk is OK, but I would have been disappointed to lose the name Engineer from a school that is practically defined by engineering.
Private schools Lehigh and Carnegie Mellon were more expensive than UM was out of state when I started, and glad for that, because that helped me decide to be a Michigan Wolverine. Actually, I just looked it up and that's still the case.
It seems like nearly every mascot name change since the 90s have been changed to the most boring and unimaginative option possible.
I'm confused. Are you saying "Mountain Hawks" is more boring and unimaginative than "Engineers?"
"Hey, guys. We're a bunch of chefs and we want to start a school for a bunch of other chefs. The problem is that we need a mascot. What do you think our nickname should be?"
"Uhhhhh...how about the Chefs?"
"Brilliant!"
An all time great.
Haha. No, I’m saying that when they decided to change the name from “Engineers” they had a million options and chose the most boring and unimaginative option.
Well they are engineers so creativity might not be their strong suit -
Because the flip side of that is that is, "Ok we're losing Engineers. We can be anything we want! Anything at at - The Assassins, the Reaper, The Swarm, The Knee Cappers
"How about the Mountain Hawks?"
"Brilliant!"
Maybe they should have combined the 2,
Engineering Hawks or Mountain Engineers.
Really would like to see more obscure mascots like the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.
Some suggestions: bullet ants, water bears, chicken turtles, Pistol shrimp, tarantula hawks, etc
Oh...the Waterbears. The Fightin' Tardigrades. You've got a winner there. Slap this bad boy on your helmet. Fuck yeah.
River Rats!
Yet the Watersmeet Nimrods march on!
It seems like nearly every mascot name change since the 90s have been changed to the most boring and unimaginative option possible.
...and birds seem to be a pattern too.
My Dad went to Lehigh before attending grad school at UM. Fortunately that was when dinosaurs still roamed the earth and you could get still a college degree for around the price of hot cup of coffee.
Lehigh was the school that rich kids in NJ went to when they weren't that smart but they thought they were too good for public school
My dad went to Lehigh from undergrad through phd. Cut hair and set bowling pins to get through. His family was pretty much dirt poor. The school has changed a lot from the 60's...
I miss the Lehigh Valley. Good food, beautiful scenery, and only an hour out of Philly. Nashville pales in comparison,
Beat Lafayette!
In before Chernobyl takes credit
Who is advising him you?
I'm trying to find a logical explanation from a wrestling, football, education, school size perspective, but I honestly can't put one together. Very odd move
Could be depth chart. Could be something outsiders wouldn’t have any reason to know.
Good luck to him. Makes sense from a wrestling perspective as much as football.
A very good wrestling school and not bad at football with solid academics. Probably a great fit if he wants to play both.
Thread Jack!!
Magnus - do you have any thoughts on this Belleville ‘22 LB - Aaron Alexander - that Michigan is showing interest in?
M now has 4 recent CBs for this “no-star”, #55 player in MI. All I know is that he had a significant injury that kept him off the field (and camps?) for the last year or more.
I can’t believe M would “waste” a scholarship on a kid just to get in good graces at Belleville so they must see something.
I think they see/saw something at camp. They saw him twice within about a week. I think he's a good athlete. I just don't really understand how he fits into the team. At 6'1" and 205 lbs., he doesn't fit the concept that Michigan is trying to get bigger at the linebacker position.
Thx. I see your point on the LB size trend. Makes me wonder if the height/weight on the recruiting sites are based on his sophomore year and thus outdated.
