PSA: Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Closed to Parking This Saturday

Submitted by rob f on November 11th, 2019 at 9:52 PM

Here's the post directly from the AAGO website:

https://www.aagoc.org/parking

...and although there's nothing yet posted on  MGoBlue.com, I am pretty damn certain they'll follow suit and close the U of M Golf Course, too.

Be prepared to make a mad dash early this Saturday for the somewhat limited parking.

Weather forecast?

Weather forecast:

Mid 20s at sunrise, 31° at kickoff, high of 35, under partly cloudy skies.

It actually says no cash sales for RVs.  As of now cash sales for cars is still available.

it will all come down to if they are parking people in the grass fields.  My guess is pioneer will be a pass only situation.

Also the $60 price per car was posted prior to the season for premium games.

So Pioneer does close to the public because of weather? Where would be the best place to keep up with updates?

Friends and I have had season passes to AAGO since last year and they're not taking those this weekend. Have never tailgated anywhere else. Our options are either Pioneer (Probably going to have to be there at 6 sharp?) or just stay inside and "tailgate" lol

michigan event parking has a twitter and facebook account.  They will post updates there if there is any changes to what is currently posted on the website.

From what I can gather if the AA Public Schools decides they don't want their grass areas destroyed they tell Michigan Event Parking they can't park on the grass.  Then Michigan Event Parking still needs to accommodate all the presold season parking passes.  In this event they don't allow cash sales on game day until an hour before the game if spots are still available.

Trinity Lutheran Church on Stadium (several blocks west of Pioneer) is my go to backup for if/when Pioneer is closed to gameday cash sales.  What you are seeing online is that there are no RV gameday cash Sale spots available.  The gameday cash spots for regular autos are still available as of now, but advanced spots are sold out for MSU.  It will really depend on how much snow melts and/or they can get cleared by Saturday.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. We usually host a big tailgate for the MSU game when it’s at home on the golf course. We have about 20 people in 4-5 cars.
Is the Trinity Lutheran Church lot big? Any restrictions in their lot - can we bring propane grill, propane heater, generator, tents?
This is our first season doing regular tailgating as we have tickets, and haven’t run into this scenario til now. Thanks for your help!

Their parking lot isn't sprawling, but it's an average size church parking lot where'd you'd easily get the vehicles in there.  It's been a while since I've been in there, but in my cases, I've usually just parked there and walked over to Pioneer and hung out with friends that have season tailgating passes, so I don't really recall if any are able to do a big setup.  Maybe look up their phone number and give them a call to see if they can accommodate all that you have.  Best of Luck!  Go Blue!

This season has really underscored that Michigan Stadium has a parking problem that remains unaddressed. When a significant portion of your gameday parking relies on open-field golf courses that close with any significant inclement weather...

The golf courses have routinely closed about once a year for many years. But that's just one part of the equation.

Let's take a tour around the stadium parking scene. Since the installation of the luxury boxes, the Blue Lot was carved into donor spots, not all of which are used. But they have to leave them empty. Several dozen more spots were given to Schembechler Hall staff. ADA compliance meant turning one of every three spots into an accessible spot in a very large portion of what was left. The Crisler expansion swallowed up even more. Expansion of the athletic campus took up other spots past the field hockey stadium. Putting FieldTurf on Elbel took up a few hundred more or so. I could go on.

The stadium has gotten progressively bigger. The number of available parking places has gone down. And when the golf courses close, the problem gets worse.

The deep snow will not melt off before Saturday and if it did, the ground would be saturated or too muddy. Saturday morning could be as cold as the teens (8AM) then warming into the lower 30s at kick off provided we get a lot sun.
