2 goals on the PP in Canada's 6-3 opener win over the Czech's. Looks like a man amongst boys out there.

Power with a hatty in wjhc

I clicked on the link just to see what that meant.  Not sure if it's just me.

It would probably be confusing to any non hockey fan. A hockey nut like me would get it though.

As far as the content, Power is the first D-men to record a WJC hat trick ever for Canada. D-men don’t regularly record hat tricks, but that’s still rather surprising considering how often Canada has dominant teams.

For those not aware, the World Juniors are a massive event in the hockey world.

Slightly off topic, but locally related, Red Wings D-men prospect Simon Edvinsson (Sweden) also had a really impressive game to continue his fantastic 2021. He’s basically looking like another Seider level prospect and don’t be surprised if he makes Detroit’s roster next year. The future looks really bright with two potential #1 D-men. Just imagine if they had drafted Quinn Hughes instead of Zadina in 2018. If Detroit can draft and/or develop a high end center to supplement Larkin in the next few years - look out.

Made sense to me, but I also follow hockey.  He was the #1 pick in the NHL entry draft this year, so it is not like he is an obscure player.  Hatty may be a bit of shorthand (too much Letterkenny, perhaps) but it is not that different from posting about a triple-double in basketball.

Hockey is also somewhat unique in that players sometimes participate in tournaments during their college season.

Good job, Owen. Nice to see him finally get the chance after getting frozen out last year.

Guy deserves to play well (perhaps in a loss to the USA, but whatever) and then win a national title. A lot of our guys deserve that, really.

If they wind up recruiting college players to the Olympics, that might complicate things. We'll see.

I never quite understood the hockey aficionado’s reticence to actually spelling words out in their entirety but hey, it makes for an insanely weird(fun) culture.

But hell, I hope that beaut Powers was doing a fair bit of chirping while blasting those biscuits in the 5-hole. I hope he showed some right fine dirty dangles on some coast to coasts before lighting the lamp.

It's not just hockey. Every sport, not to mention gambling, has its acronyms and slang.

Football: "Because of their 4-3, he's got the most TFLs for the WFT." (Obviously, WFT means "What Fuh Thuck.")

Baseball: "Adding his ribbies, his WAR is high."

Cricket: "A bowler should avoid beamers and bouncers." (I looked it up.)

Like most of the MGoGang, I too usually like titles that clearly state what the subject is.

However, I do think there's room for the occasional intriguing title. This title so clearly meant something that it was like encountering obscure slang in a movie, not knowing the meaning at first but being sure that the movie would soon explain the meaning.

Never really realized how big Owen Power is until we attended the home Hockey game vs. Niagara the night before “the Game”.  6’5” 214lb Power next to his fellow blue liner 5’9” 160lb Nick Blankenburg was an eye opener.  He truly is a man among boys. Hope him and Portillo both do well win Buffalo.
