Positive stats for Harbaugh's five years coaching Michigan
Bill Connelly who does the fancy stats SP+ ratings just posted this on Twitter:
Current 2015-19 SP+ averages: 1 Bama, 2 Oh St, 3 Clemson, 4 OU, 5 LSU, 6 UGA, 7 Mich, 8 Auburn, 9 PSU, 10 Notre Dame.
As we prepare to take on the Leviathan of the decade it is important to keep in mind that JH has brought us from the depths of despair to the cusp of elite status. We are very lucky to have him, and it is beyond absurd to think that we could find a coach who is more dedicated or more able to lead our program.
GO BLUE!!

Very encouraging. I hope we make it over the hump today

Time to make that next step. Hopefully Harbaugh learned from his errors in his first five seasons and only improves going forward. I think the most important thing is figuring out how to prevent so much attrition.

This is way better than what we would have without him. Just got to find a way to beat Ohio State and win bowl games. A chance to do 1 today and a chance to help with the other today as well.

Before Harbaugh, we lost to @#$%ing Rutgers, Maryland, and Minnesota. Got shutout by Notre Dame and then apologized to MSU after getting our #$% kicked all over the field!!!!

The most frustrating thing is that the first stat is actually very difficult to accomplish.

Amen - Harbaugh has been a godsend to this program and university. Go blue!

It's beyond absurd to think there is possibly someone on the planet who could lose less than three games at the University of Michigan?

Beat Alabama

While I laughed at “cusp of elite”...I am relieved/thankful that the past decade of Michigan Football, filled with countless disappointment and anguish, has come to an end. I am cautiously optimistic about the future of Michigan Football...and hope to see a return to greatness and simultaneous return to disappointment for Buckeye Nation. Cheers to a brand new decade of Wolverine Football...a win over Alabama would definitely be a great start!

Unbelievably happy to have Jim Harbaugh coaching Michigan football and Michigan values.

Players (and staff) dying due to negligence during JH tenure: 0
Not all FBS coaches can claim this, sadly.

That’s nice to see. It’s funny how 1 or 2 players can dramatically impact a team. For example Ambry balled out this yr, would never have known he was stricken w/uc - had a huge impact on the season. The emergence of Cam equally important.
Its really unfortunate that Aubrey Solomon washed out. If that dude lived up to his potential, it would have totally changed the equation. Damn. It’s always something

How do you reconcile your comment that we're on the cusp of elite status with the results of our game(s) against one of the 3 elite programs (OSU)?
Your S&P list, if it had the averages would show a large gap after the top 3 programs, and several other gaps thereafter. We've reached a sort of home-field-wins parity with Wisconsin and PSU and ND level programs, been exceptional at avoiding upsets from the Purdues/Marylands of the world, and achieved a reliable level of year to year consistency. Maybe that's OK, especially until the current iteration of amateurism dies? Opinions will vary. It's much better than it was before but really not that close to elite.

We have the misfortune of having the #2 team as our arch rival. And that rival has no concern for ethics or rules, and the one time we actually beat them on the field, the refs disagreed.
The team is much better now than before Harbaugh, and we continue to improve. I’ll take it.

We really haven't improved at all as we move into years 3 to 5. Year 3 was a step back and so was year 5. Year 4 was a bit of a step forward. Overall, it's a wash and the momentum of building a program has stalled. There's really nothing going on at this put to suggest this program is on an upward trajectory. We've plateaued at Good Year Iowa. Which is better than it was but not that great.

Interesting, I’ve always lived on a planet where one particular stat matters more than any other. John Cooper is all too familiar with it.
And no matter how much dancing around the elephant you muster, any UM coach is gonna face serious criticism as long as it continues. He may even someday lose his gig over it.
I, for one, am pretty sure UM didn’t hire Jim to make excuses for him. To bow down before Ryan Day, or bagmen or the terror of online courses.
I will not join the “if Jim can’t do it, no one can” cult. If they double-down on him after today (contract extension), so be it. But no one is gonna shut up about the elephant. Nor should they.
Speaking of elephants. Beat ‘Bama.
