OT:Holy Swede! Wings Win
On Monday night the NHL went back into action after the Olympic games ended with a classic NHL rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche and it's safe to say that this game went on like that of an Olympic hockey game with 3 Swedish goals from Holmstrom, Franzen and Lidstrom. Wings were up 2-0 going into the second but a response from Stasny and the Avs quickly made it 2-2 until in the middle minutes of the third thanks to a power-play goal from veteran Nick Lidstrom to knot up the game winner at 3-2. After the game Lidstrom told the press that "I'm happy with our effort tonight, there was no Olympic hangover in the 1st. We came out strong and showed great puck control but we need to work on holding leads especially by a two goal margin. It almost slipped but we held tough and got the win." When asked if he was suprised that all 3 goals were scored by his fellow countriemen, the veteran defenseman chuckled and said "definitely not a sign of an Olympic hangover." The win last night jumped the Wings into the 8th seed in the west with 70 pts. The Wings host the Vancouver Canucks tonight at Joe Louis Arena. The Canucks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets last night in Overtime 4-3. Detroit looks to continue its 2 game streak with a win at the Joe.
Now we just gotta keep winning. I don't think I can handle April and May if there isn't a Wings playoff run.
I still cannot support Phoenix even though they have a plethora of UM kids -- now if the team was still in Winnipeg...
I guess i am stuck following the Habs in the east, but they will flame out early anyway...
this is the start of the playoffs right now. Every game is huge. Especially this week w/ all the Western conference foes.
Agreed. Definitely gotta be in playoff mode now.
note: the Canucks are on an NHL record 14 game road trip. how much that counts given the whole Olympics rest who knows.
um.. did you.. write this? or copy/paste it..?
One of the other sites I design for/with is doing a little contest, and the name of the game is rebranding the Original Six. In other words, take the six most famous, storied logos in the entire NHL and pretend they never even existed. Of course, the Redwings are now on the clock and I thought I'd ask some of the diehard fans here a simple question, if only to learn more about what the locals would like to see. In other words...
What do you think of when you see the name Redwings?
Pretend that the winged wheel never existed-- then what would your boys wear on their sweaters?? I should point out this whole thing is just for fun/bragging rights and there's no money in it at all... but I'll definitely give a shout-out if someone directly inspires me. I just thought the MGoCommunity might offer a unique perspective as tried-and-true Wings fans. Thanks and I'll be sure to post a link when it's finished.
*head asploded*
I think of cardinals. And other such red-winged birds.
But the true reason I'm posting:
OMFG YOUR AVATAR IS AMAZING.
which thankfully I'm not, I'm cheering for the Wings. The Wings are the last team either of them wants to face in the first round.
My guess is that the Wings play their way into the 4th or 5th spot.
to see it happen but i think 4th or 5th is not going to happen... the wings have 20 games left and they are 10 points out of 4th and 9 points out of 5th... they are going to have to play .800 hockey down the strech and hope that phoenix and LA play .500 or below hockey to make close...
