Predictions? I just personally saw Bob Backlund and I yelled "Bob Backlund! I'm still mad about the Bret Hart match!" He just waved...Some security guard asked if he should know who that was and I told him who it was and his reply was "Oh, I just kicked him out of the aisleway." "Cool Story Bro" anyway, enjoy WWE fans!

...at least it's more realistic than the NBA (in that the storylines are scripted and the winners are predetermined, but the guys in the ring actually put forth a little effort to entertain the fans).

What is "fake" about being body slammed? Sure, some moves don't hurt as much as others and the punching/kicking is usually not as hard as it would be in a street fight, but those guys get injured all the time. Professional wrestling takes a serious toll on the human body over time. Obviously it is scripted, but that is just part of the business.

You may have completely missed the point of my comment where I back up the fac that pro wrestlers actually put forth effort in entertaining their fans.  I truly understand that these guys put their bodies through hell.  A brawl at 3/4 speed is still a hell of a lot to put your body through.  However, it is nonetheless "fake."  The storylines are scripted, the outcomes are preplanned, the fights are choreographed. 

It's like if I was to get a diamond ring that was beautifully handcrafted, but with simulated diamonds and nickel.  I would still respect the craftmanship and skill required to make it and understand why others would buy and treasure it, but at the end of the day, regardless of the effort that went into it, it's still a fake diamond ring.

I mean, it's "fake" in the sense that a seemingly-immortal and supernatural Undertaker doesn't actually tombstone piledrive his half-brother Kane, a man capable of commanding fire to erupt from ringposts with his mind.  I think people look at the theatrics and the spandex and default to "haha dumb rednecks" and feel that it is slightly homoerotic.  Of course, go to a gym and you'll see Men's Fitness magazines everywhere with guys trying to get abs like the half-naked dude on the cover.  Or they'll watch 300 and ignore the fact that most of the movie is a bunch of barely-clothed men kicking other guys and cutting off their CGI'ed limbs.

I agree that wrestling as a physical activity is incredibly real.  Guys die from injuries at a rate you similar to former NFL players, and the concussion issue is as prevalent in the WWE as in any sport.  Heck, Dolph Zigler basically lost his title because of a concussion.  They are incredibly talented stuntmen who also can usually act and emote as well as most action stars.

The "wrestling" crap wasn't nearly as interesting as the little old ladies sitting at ringside who were going apeshit over the theatrics inside the ring. I've always wondered if they were paid by the promoters or were just as delusional as that sad fuck in the "It's real to me Dammit" video.

Yeah.  I watched some old Wrestlemanias and WCW/NWA events some time ago and you could see the syringe marks on some of the guys' arms.  I mean, I'm sure some are still juicing, but the differences in body types is far more believable.  I think now the bigger issue is pain reliever abuse, which is an issue all major sports are dealing with.

People still argue over whether it's fake or real? It's a soap opera on steroids. It's about the story lines and plot twists, pure entertainment. These are actors who do their own stunts. Like any movie with stunt men, the stunts are real but the movie is fake.

I like how this post has 26 comments but none actually relate to, you know, NOC. 

I love the MGoBlog community most of the time, but every week people have posts about whatever prestige show is currently running and nobody says "why the hell are you so into a fake show about Meth dealers, gangsters during Prohibition, advertising executives in the 60s, etc?  You know it's all fake - Bryan Cranston really isn't a brilliant chemist who also is the one who knocks."  But gawd forbid someone wants to talk about professional wrestling and everyone has to come out with the "hurr hurr you know it's fake.  They all use steroids!  Bunch of dumb hicks watch it."

Again, this place exploded yesterday when a bunch of teenagers and early 20-somethings nearly lost a football game.  We salivate over whether HS seniors will choose us (yes US!) over some other school, and we act liked jilted little kids when we don't get what we want.  So before everyone acts superior to a couple of us who enjoy the "absurdity" of professional wrestling, how about we all look in the mirror?  And before anyone calls me a hypocrite, I get my fandom of UM is patently absurd and accept that.  And in terms of recruits, I have never had a particularly strong affinity toward that part of the system because of the illogical emotions it tends to invoke in people.

That said, on to the main event.

Caught a stream of the card (bought Summerslam last time, and my wife definitely wonders if I buy more than a couple a year).  The card looked decent on paper but I figured there would be some smoz endings to keep storylines going through the fall until Hell in a Cell. 

Was surprised to see Del Rio hold onto the WHC just becaue he can't generate enough heat to melt an ice cube and Van Dam has been pretty hot since his return.  Plus, if they want to give it a run with some other heel, you need an easy transition champ.

Diva match was crap, but what's new?  Did think the Miz and Fandango match moved reasonably well, but both of these guys just seem "there" in a way that is a death knell for careers.  The Punk-Axel match was predictable but fun, and I like the idea of Heyman getting Ryback to watch his back now with Axel failing so often. 

Bryan winning the title back seemed unbelievable to start, but he was booked strong in this match and I guess it progresses the storyline.  The ref's quick count will definitely be brought up tomorrow.

Overall, an okay card, but kind of happy I didn't plop down the money.
