OT- Wings/Devils

Submitted by MGoPietrowski on

I was one of the many who lost faith last night only to be shamed by these incredible Wings.

Second to last game of the season. A win for us and a loss* for Nashville tonight locks up home ice for what seems to be our inevitable first round match up against the Preds.

Down 0-1 early, but as i learn 10x a year, don't count the boys from the D out.

Also, Keith you are an idiot...

edit: *A win for us and a regulation loss for Nashville*

The Wings are just giving up the slot in front of Howard, it should be 3-0 right now. They played well for the first few minutes but deflated once New Jersey scored

I am probably the only Devils fan on this site. Have been since I started watching hockey back in '93. I'm not really gonna know what to do when Brodeur retires. I've always had a little bit of a rivalry with my friends who are Wings fans, and I usually know the Wings almost as good as the Devils because they are on TV so much here, so I like when they play each other. I haven't seen the whole game tonight because I have been watching the Frozen Four as well, but it sure feels like a playoff game. I didn't realize until tonight that Marty has won only once in Detroit (in the regular season, at least). Should be a great 3rd period.

I imagine they will try to hold on to Hedberg for a while, as he has been great the last couple years in relief, and has split time a lot more than any of Marty's previous backups. The question is how long he stays. He could play a couple more years if they adopt a system similar to what the Wings used with Osgood and Hasek. Eventually, though, they are going to have to grab a younger guy that can step up and play well in a defensive system.

San Jose has our number, but I wouldn't mind playing LA, since the travel goes both ways and they aren't as good as Nashville.  Either way, it won't matter if Babcock doesn't figure something out and get them to win a game in regulation.  I seriously can't remember the last time that happened, but there are no shootouts in the playoffs and they seem utterly incapable of winning games on actual hockey plays instead of shootouts.

Preds scored twice in the 3rd to win 2-0 and leapfrog the Wings.  Blackhawks just lost in a SO.

Wings host Blackhawks Sat afternoon; Preds @ Avs Sat night.

Anyone know what the tiebreakers are?  If Blackhawks win, they tie in points, but the Wings still have more wins.

Edit:  OK, if I have this correctly, after points, it's non-SOWs, then head-to-head.  So Wings in 4th with a win and Preds lose with no points; Wings in 5th if tie with Preds due to Preds greater non-SOWs; Wings drop to 6th if lose with no points, as Blackhawks win head-to-head.

At this point, I could care less what happens against Chicago on Sunday. Just hoping there are no more injuries and our already nicked up guys can get some rest and prepare for the playoffs.
