OT - Verlander's New Contract
Justin Verlander and the Tigers have agreed to a 5 year $80 million contract (according to ESPN)
I think this is a great move by the Tigers to get this contract out of the way now so it's not a distraction during spring training and the regular season. Glad to see that we don't have to worry about JV or Cabrera going anywhere anytime soon.
EDIT: Just saw that there are 2 of these topics on the second page. Sorry. :(

This should allow us to hold onto him for a few more years before we ship him off for some prospects to the Yankees.

Quick and dirty calculation:
30 games a season
5.8 innings a game
14 pitches per inning
Detroit's price per pitch: about $6500.
I have no problem with this at all, so long as he works as HARD AS HE CAN to make sure every single pitch is worth $6500. Every time he throws a ball or gives up a hit, I'm going to be yelling at the TV, "$6500!"
