OT: US Open Day Two
Day Two of the US Open is well underway.
Several Americans already started:
Opelka v Kwan- Reilly should HOPEFULLY take this one in straights
McDonald vs Goffin- IIRC, Mackie is the betting favorite in this; Goffin has always been a decent player but he's never lived up to his large potential- there was talk about him being a Grand Slam champ.
Kudla vs Djere- Who knows.
Escebedo vs Cuevas- See above.
Did anyone catch the bit from the Murray presser about Tsitsipas? Dude went off on the Greek about taking long breaks and taking his bag with him.

FYI, if you have DirecTV, you can catch a lot of the matches on the 900 stations.
Forgot to mention Querrey v Zverev- I can't see Sam sticking around long in that one.

I think it took every ounce of restraint for Murray just to shake Tsitsi's hand after the match. Tension! Then he sends out this tweet...
Fact of the day. It takes Stefanos Tsitipas twice as long to go the bathroom as it takes Jeff Bazos to fly into space. Interesting. ? ?

Love the toilet emoji there.
I think Zverev is going to pound Querrey. Would be surprised if he drops a set but you never know with these Next Gen players.

Murray’s comments are appropriate and are most likely directed at Djokovic since he pulls this BS more than anyone else. Because of Djokovic’s reputation, there is no doubt Tsitsipas’ was flabbergasted thinking “hey Djokovic does this all the time when he’s in trouble.” Tsitsipas and other young players are just going to follow Djokovic’s example to win at all cost until the rules change.

Highly doubtful

I can't believe I'm saying this as I used to despise him for his whining antics (just like Novak), but I sort of missed Murray being in the mix. That was a fun match to watch.

I have never been a fan of Andy, but I'd agree- I think him being involved made the sport a lot better.
As much as I appreciate the dominance of these three, just like any TV show, you start to get bored and want to see something new.
But I do also understand people enjoy watching greatness.

The only problem is the "Next Gen" players (Thiem, Med, Tsitsi, Zverev and others) are so lame. Andy Murray is intriguing compared to all of them.

Kudla wins- playing well in his middle tennis years now.
Cressy taking on Carreno Busta- for those of you tennis fans who like the most old school serve and volley, give Cressy a watch.

Korda forced to retire. Wow. That sucks.
August 31st, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
What happened? Injured?
August 31st, 2021 at 3:55 PM ^
Illness I think. He asked for a bucket before the last few games he played.
August 31st, 2021 at 3:59 PM ^
Yeah he got food poisoning a couple days ago apparently.
August 31st, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
That really sucks esp considering how careful players are with their diets these days.
August 31st, 2021 at 3:58 PM ^
Everything Murray said was 100% accurate and he's not the first player to complain about Tsitsipas.
August 31st, 2021 at 4:52 PM ^
Cressy has completely flipped his match against Busta. Was down 2 sets to 0. Won the 3rd, and now potentially on his way to getting the 4th

Wowowowow PCB choked big time
August 31st, 2021 at 6:56 PM ^
And that's PCB's surface too. I would LOVE to see an Opelka vs Cressy match. I would have to root for Opelka because I think he's got the juice to make it further, but Cressy is sneaky good; I just love watching his game.
August 31st, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
Cressy had 44 aces! If he continues to serve like that he may make some noise.

Late night update:
Brooksby just defeated Ymer.
Fritz up a set and a break on De Minaur.
September 1st, 2021 at 8:51 AM ^
American men really killed it so far. Seems like we have a deep bunch of solid players, but no top 5 or 10 elite guys. Maybe one of these guys can make a big jump.

Yes, but this is nothing new as of now.
Typically, the USA men do very well early on in the first couple matches and then they run into the better players.
I think this year, they have a better chance of sticking around because the draws around them are not nearly as good. Brooksby or Fritz have a good chance of getting to the R16, where they will likely be smoked by the Djoker; however, Fritz did take him 5 in the Aussie.
Cressy or Opelka have a REALLY favorable draw; I could see either of them getting to the round of 16, or even the quarters.
Nakashima is a sneaky good pick on the bottom half to get far also.
