What is it with State colleges that allowed a pattern of ignoring evidence? PSU, MSU and OSU and.... ?

"We find that University personnel had knowledge of Strauss' sexually abusive treatment of male student-patients as early as 1979, but that complaints and reports about Strauss' conduct were not elevated beyond the Athletics Department or Student Health until 1996,"
It took 17 years of incidents being reported to the AD and Student Health department before someone took it seriously? SMH. What's wrong with these people?

People are too critical, I'm sure an email was sent about this problem at earliest moment possible.
October 2nd, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Along those same lines though, why is it that people don't get real authorities involved more often? Maybe in the past it was believed that reporting incidents to the school was a good move, but by now its become clear that school are unable or unwilling to reliably handle complaints. Tell your friends and family members to go to the cops if they experience something.

"We find that University personnel had knowledge of Strauss' sexually abusive treatment of male student-patients as early as 1979, but that complaints and reports about Strauss' conduct were not elevated beyond the Athletics Department or Student Health until 1996," the Perkins Coie report read.
Outside investigators discovered that Strauss was eventually disciplined for multiple sexual abuse complaints in 1996. Despite that, he voluntarily retired two years later and received an "emeritus" honor that he maintained until his death.
Well, that's all you need to know about OSU as an institution

Will this result in Football Sanctions? Not to make light of this horrible situation. Just Curious...

penn state made Sandusky 'emeritus' too.

Decades of abuse. This approaches penn state level malfeasance.

Did Ryan Day know? I’d love to know the details on that one.
October 2nd, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Day didn't get hired at osu until 2017, Strauss committed suicide in 2005.
October 2nd, 2019 at 1:08 PM ^
The molestations started in 1979...Ryan Day was born in...1979! Coincidence? I think not.

Any mention of Jim Jordan?
October 2nd, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
What disgusts me is that Jim Jordan’s involvement in this fiasco is going to be viewed by some as a political third rail simply because he’s an elected congressman.
October 2nd, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Right, and it's understandable to the extent that political affiliations are going to skew responses in different directions. But the broader point is really important: people who turn a blind eye to serious abuses while in positions of power are very often permitted to ascend to even great positions of power. We need much better systems of accountability.

Summary of Dr. Strauss's background for those who are interested: https://www.athleteabuse.com/who-is-dr-richard-strauss-osu/
What's interesting about all of these cases is the trail of human denial that followed him. They lived and operated in communities for decades and no one did anything to stop it.
Went to Rutgers as medical resident? Rutgers says nope, no record of him here, leave us out of it! Research fellow at Harvard Medical School and Peter Bent Brigham? Oh, but we have no information about him to share and no record of any complaints about him when he was here.
Really?
It makes one wonder just how many of these predatory pieces of human excrement are walking around in our midst.
