OT: Tom Brady, Woodson and other NFL Wolverines

Submitted by tomhagan on
Brady just threw his 200th TD pass in the NFL and is the first QB to do it with under 100 INT. Anyone who counted out Brady based on last week was wrong...he is a gamer and will be back at or near the top by the end of the year. BTW, the NFL Refs are still terrible at recognizing and calling Pass Interference, as evident by this game and also the Lions game. Maybe it should be a reviewable play.

While we're on the topic of Michigan players in the NFL, Charles Woodson just had his third INT of the year for Green Bay. Not too shabby for a guy who turns 33 next week, per the announcers. Edit: Thanks for changing the title. We should have a weekly Wolverines in the NFL thread. Manningham represent this week?

Two words: Spot Foul. That, IMO is the problem with the NFL rule... either they should change it to the college 15 yd rule, or make it reviewable. Too many times you see teams just chuck it in to the endzone, get a shakey PI and get the ball at the one. On the other hand, we see too many times where a WR gets mugged and there is no call (like in the Lions and Pats games) a little hand play and fighting for the ball is OK and part of the game but a it is such a shakey judgement call for these refs, and most of them are getting it wrong quite often.

1. The spotty nature of most NFL PI calls (you sneeze on a receiver and you get a penalty) itself calls into question every PI flag. 2. The spot foul rule (which should be abolished, there is no good reason for it) provides huge changes in ballgames and it is unfair to the defense for an unfairly-enforced rule to punish that severely.

From ESPN: EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After looking vulnerable for the first time this season, the New York Jets' top-ranked defense came up big in the end. David Harris had an interception and a big sack on consecutive drives, and Mark Sanchez threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Jets stayed undefeated by holding on for a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
