OT: Tigers call up Wilkin Ramirez

Submitted by MichFan1997 on
My fellow Tiger fans will remember his debut earlier this year where he hit a HR in his first career game. Casey Fien was sent back down. Thoughts on this? I was talking to tricks574 on MSN and he wondered if this is a precursor to a waiver trade involving Ryan Raburn. I speculated maybe they want someone not named Magg's to face the lefty pitcher tonight. Any thoughts on this move?

Not to be a dick, but your posts really don't add much of anything to the blog. At least add something to your crazy yelling as to WHY the tigers should cut him. Mention the huge paycheck, the slumping power numbers, the hair...anything.

Would anyone really want Ryan Raburn? Every time I think of him I picture him running around the outfield like a rabbit with its head cut off.

I think Raburn has some value, especially since he seems capable of playing a number of positions. If I'm the Tigers, though, I rather keep him and find a way to move Ordonez, since I'm fairly certain we'll see his name on that MLB steroid list before the season is done, and his play has deteriorated enough that he simply is not a good option beyond a platoon.

No, I agree. I never expected anyone to take his contract - I just want him to sit so that his option does not kick in for next year. As for the PED tests, I just think it might be a better option for him to be on the bench/not in the public as much in case that list is leaked.

I had heard from various sites (I know very ambiguous, espn tigers board, MLB tigers site) that Wilkin was doing ok at AAA, but not great. A high number of K's w/ a .270's BA. At the big league level those are decent especially if there is some power, but once again, those were from AAA. I welcome any change right now. The worst that could happen is he hits into a bunch of DP's, lots of K's, and once in a while he'll run into one. Last I checked, that's exactly what the Tigers already have, so I think this move is a wash. Maybe they'll catch lightening in a bottle with him.

you'll have to excuse chitown and his relentlessly negative attitude about the tigers - he's a mets fan, so he has a crack addiction, inferiority complex, and giant mustache that cuts off circulation to his brain.

While Ramirez could potentially be used as a left-handed bat on a semi-regular basis, there are now only 11 pitchers on the roster. That said, Fien was atrocious in his limited time on the roster. It may be that the Tigers don't have anyone else in the Minors who they're that excited about filling a seventh slot in the bullpen, and want to give Ramirez a chance to compete for a spot in the hope that this will somehow boost the offense. That said, hopefully they intend to make some kind of move via waivers, as there are serious holes in both the bullpen and the lineup.

Remember the days when teams didn't carry 12 pitchers on their roster? I still think 14/11 is a better roster construction, that 7th pitcher in the pen hardly ever pitches or is some one-out guy that you don't really need to have. You're better off with the flexibility to play platoons in the lineup and have some pinch hitters available (or someone to run).

Well Ramirez is batting leadoff and playing left. Rayburn in center, and Ordonez in right. This defense scares me bc Washburn is a flyball pitcher.
