OT: Per Scout: 6'4" 235 QB's Average Size a Need For Improvement
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=5262151
It's late July -
So let's ignore why I'm looking at 2* TX kids committed to Wake Forest - but, either way:
Since when is a 6'4" 235 QB "average size"? Wouldn't this make Culpepper, Mallett, and that fat guy from Kentucky a few years ago the only adequately sized QBs in all of football?
And he's a to-be-Senior in high school - how much bigger does he need to get before his size is no longer a "need for improvement"
No sense in rehashing that Scout swings-and-misses at times, but this is a glaring and laughable mistake for a recruiting site to make.
I guess all 6'2 200 pound signal callers might as well move to OLB already.
It also lists size as an "area for improvement." I'd guess that the 6'4" 235 listing is B.S.
Which I'd agree with. The 235 is.. Well.. Kinda big for a QB
Maybe they mean he is too big?
I hope that means he needs to lose pounds and not inches.
Tom Brady: 6'4 225
Peyton Manning: 6'5 230
Matthew Stafford: 6'2 232
John Elway: 6'3 215
Ben Roethlisberger: 6'5 241
I'm sure I could go on but I'm thinking 6'4 235 is pretty average. May be a little on the upper side but I would consider it "average size". I wouldn't say it's something that "needs" improvement, but it certainly wouldn't hurt if he grew a few inches.
Because all likely put on weight in the NFL - Brady definitely did.
Yea NFL weights. I figured that's what they're comparing to considering that's the end game for these kids. I'm not going to bother looking up college weights because i'm assuming they're smaller (the heights may be as well, not nearly as drastic i'd venture to guess). Either way I don't think it's really a knock on the kid, he's average size for a QB when compared to other successful QBs, that's not necessarily a negative thing.
Average college size is not average NFL size.
A quick look at the top high school prospects has them listed at anywhere from 6'0 to 6'6 with the average looking around 6'2 or 6'3. He's 6'4, I'd say that's close enough to consider him average height. His weight is high compared to other high school QBs with the average looking like around 210. So he's slightly heavy but if it's muscle then he's fine, and most of them will put on some weight in college anyways. All i'm saying is that the "average size" comment isn't as ridiculous as the OP makes it seem.
Edit: a quick run of numbers shows top 20 QBs for this class avg 6'2.75 and 200lbs so the kid is a heavy in comparison.
If that's the case, then 85% of QBs are below average size.
There is no way Big Ben is only 241 pounds. He's not fat by any means but I'd bet he's 15-20 pounds over that listed weight at least.
you are adding the water weight he gains in a night of binging. If I weigh myself after a night of partying, I'm usually up 5-10 pounds because of the mass amounts of Jack Daniel's (or some single barrel bourbon) I drank.

That fat kid from Kentucky is named Jared Lorenzen (aka J-Load; aka The Pillsbury Throwboy), and I'll thank you to not belittle his contributions to society in such a manner.
Also, I'm not sure if anyone can find the article, but I believe Lorenzen at one point was MIA from Giants training camp for a few days and was spotted at an Arby's or a Denny's and picked up and driven to camp.
Lorenzen was also known as The Hefty Lefty.
he is a 2* committed to WF, they probably could have gone with:
"Star Rating"
or
"Judgment"
That counts for a lot.
