OT: Rutgers Basketball Coach Tirade @ Baseball Game
Rutgers basketball coach Fred Hill, Jr. is son to baseball coach Fred Hill, Sr., and apparently that gives him the opportunity to be in the dug out on occasion. Against Pitt last weekend, apparently that also "allowed" him to release a tirade of cuss words at Pittsburgh's coach as he attempted to appeal a play.
In a bizarre outburst witnessed by several reporters, Hill made a scene after the Rutgers baseball team beat ranked Pitt 9-8 in a wild finish Thursday. In the bottom of the ninth, with Rutgers trailing 8-7, runners on second and third and two outs, Mike Lang’s grounder to short was fielded cleanly, but the throw to first was off the mark, allowing the tying and winning runs to score. Pitt coach Joe Jordano protested the call at first base, prompting a huddle by the umpires. During the huddle, Hill (whose father is RU’s longtime baseball coach) was on the diamond in front of the Rutgers dugout and launched into a profanity-laced tirade in the direction of Jordano and the Pittsburgh coaches.WTF? At least Borseth kept his language in check during his rant.
Mike Gundy coaches basketball from the Rutgers dugout?
Nobody cares about their basketball team so he probably wanted some attention.
Too bad Rutgers doesn't have a freep-style paper following them around - this would have been in the national news.
It was a suprise around here that he kept his job even before this. People knew he didn't have x's and o's coaching savvy but he was a stud NJ recruiter for 'Nova as an assistant. Those mad recruiting skills dried up when he got here. just an awful, awful coach. He must have compromising pics on someone to have made it this long.
A baseball coach cursing out an umpire? You don't say...
1) It was the basketball coach on the baseball field where he had no business being.
2) It was directed at their coach, not the umpires.
It may have been out of line, but he was probably just pissed about his small dong.
/I've been drinking
Welp, looks like it gave the administration an excuse, er, "cause."
Cost him his job.
