OT - Prosecutors in Jameis Winston case: Press Conference @ 2pm EST

Submitted by boliver46 on

Not a discussion on presumption of innocence or guilt - just found it interesting that the Prosecutors office in Florida is having a Press Conference to discuss their findings and plans in regards to the Jameis Winston rape case.

Many believe the announcement of a Press Conference signals that the prosector will choose NOT to file rape charges...although I also see that Sexual Battery is on the table as well.

What do you think?  From what you've read, do you think Winston gets charged with anything?  Especially in light of the debacle of a police investigation by the Tallahassee P.D.?

EDIT: Winston not to be charged.  Great work Prosecutors on giving ESPN the scoop BEFORE your press conference.  Might as well cancel.

Just because they didn't think they had evidence to convict doesn't mean he's innocent. My neighbor keyed my mother-in-law's car with a metal poker he was holding in front of her next to the car moments after he threatened her and she entered my house. But bc there's no video tape of him doing it, he wouldn't admit it to the police officer, and he hid the poker afterwards, they wouldn't prosecute. Still just as guilty as crap. But no charges.

As some mentioned above, rape is such a messy case to prove, innocent or guilty. If Winston is indeed innocent, I feel bad for him because he had a cloud hanging over his head all season. And it likely will never leave forever. It may even cost him a heisman trophy and could have cost his team some games because of the distraction. If he is guilty...my general disgust for most of humanity is strengthened.

Doubtful about the cloud, at least regarding those who will influence his career and thus life. There was a poll of coaches and/or whoever votes for the Heisman, and a majority said Winston's situation would not affect their vote. I think many men (sorry to point fingers, I just think that's the way this thing falls) will breathe a sigh of relief with this decision. Who wants to think that a sports hero would do something like this?

I have no clue what happened and can't really comment.

From a football perspective, I am glad OSU won't luck into a Winston-less FSU team.  Make them earn it if they do manage to get past Sparty.

Had not heard about this before today, enough to ruin the entire day.  Especially with the unbelieveable nasty comments (not here..other sites.... following the news stories) from "Nole" fans, OSU fans, and selected others.  just unbelievable.

The law is clear enough, if she said no, it's rape, if she was too drunk to have intent, it's rape. There is DNA evidence.  Most of what is being thrown around on the Net is character assassination of both young people.  The problem is the difficulty in determining all the legally significant facts a year later.  The victim reported in a timely manner, the police dept sat on the investigation.  Politics?  Only in a perfect world is that not a factor.  That doesn't mean guilt necessarily but it does bring up the question of why not resolve this sooner, especially if the accused was clean,  given the high profile nature of the case.

To me the #1 takeaway message is raise your daughters to know what situations to stay away from, because there is just no guarantee of any kind that the system will work.

Yes. We must also raise our sons to bear the responsibility of making the right decision. If there is any question at all about the woman's consent, walk away. If she's had too much to drink, walk away. Don't put yourself in a situation you might regret later. We have to be clear with our sons, as well.
