OT - Premier League Championship Sunday

Submitted by bacon1431 on

One of the best days of the year for soccer fans is the last day of the season. All the games are played at the same time and there's usually something at stake at the top of the table and at the bottom. If you want a taste of what this day can be like, you can check out this video of Survival Sunday 2011, when there were 5 teams at risk of going down the final day: Link  And here's a video of the final day of the 2011-12 season, when City won in stoppage time to take away the title from United Link

Unfortunately, the Premier League has somewhat of a dull final day overall. The top spot is up for grabs. Manchester City sits at top and only needs a point to win the league. Liverpool need to win their match and hope City lose. The only other spots really up for grabs is one of the final Europa League places. Tottenham currently sit in the last one, with Manchester United 3 points behind, but hold the goal differential advantage by a wide margin. So if the Spurs lose and United win, the Red Devils will stay in European play next season (although I think it's best if they miss out and focus on the league next year).

But something that has never happened in the States before will happen today - every single Premier League match will be televised.

10:00 a.m. ET: Manchester City vs. West Ham United – NBC
10:00 a.m. ET: Liverpool vs. Newcastle – NBCSN
10:00 a.m. ET: Tottenham vs. Aston Villa – USA
10:00 a.m. ET: Southampton vs. Manchester United – SYFY
10:00 a.m. ET: Cardiff City vs. Chelsea – CNBC
10:00 a.m. ET: Norwich City vs. Arsenal – MSNBC
10:00 a.m. ET: Hull City vs. Everton – Bravo
10:00 a.m. ET: Fulham vs. Crystal Palace – E!
10:00 a.m. ET: Sunderland vs. Swansea – Esquire
10:00 a.m. ET: West Brom vs. Stoke City – Oxygen

And of course, European soccer provides a wonderful excuse for day drinking here in the States, so I'll be cracking open some brews throughout the excitement.

History and expectations - read up on the history of the clubs you're considering. When I was choosing, it came down to Wolves, Sunderland and Everton. Wolves' story appealed to me most. Ask what expectations you want from your club. If you want domestic and European titles, your choices are narrowed down. Style of play can be important, at least initially, too. When I started following, I didn't know much about the sport. I ended up picking a team that played really direct soccer at the time. Mick McCarthy coached that physical, direct football and it kept me interested. If they had played tippy tap, I might have lost interest. MM has since been fired and Wolves play vastly different now, but that initial attraction to physical play caught my attention.

La Liga is getting real interesting today as Atletico and Barca are drawing, with Real losing by 2 at the moment LA Galaxy vs Portland today. Michigan alum Kofi Opare is starting at CB for the Galaxy

just curious...

I follow Champions League mostly but do my best to follow MLS as well. Its hard given the lack of TV time. I can catch Red Bulls action locally on MSG channel but try and tune into NBCSN's weekend games. Portland playing LA Galaxy right now.

I've made a concerted effort to follow it more closely this year. Watched the weekly game on NBC Sports. If we want soccer to get big in this country, we've got to support MLS, even if the quality isn't qutie up there. I'm gonna try to get a couple Crew games this summer, due to being in SE Michigan. But I support domestic soccer here in Michigan by being an ardent supporter of Detroit City Football Club.

Big City fan here, and so happy we won it again.  Hopefully we can add to the trophy collection next year.  Love Pellegrini's style of play, and really love watching guys like Yaya Toure and Kompany.  They show the same passion for the club and the tight knit group will only continue to get better and better.  This was a tough year with some tough injuries at some key moments in the season, but they hung around long enough and Liverpool and Chelsea failed to capitalize on some golden opportunities.  Next year, hopefully we can win 3 or 4 trophies.  Also, can't wait to watch Barca vs Atletico Madrid next week for La liga title, should be exciting, and Ray Hudson will be losing his mind.

I suggest watching SkySportsNews either through Vipbox or firstrowsports. Make sure to have AdBlock as an add-on. There are a lot of pop-ups for those two sites.

SkySportsNews does a wonderful job covering all the team in all of the English Leagues.
