OT: NCAA Football 12 Customization

Submitted by joeyb on

The details for the demo came out yesterday, and it was kind of disappointing to see that we won't get a chance to mess around with the new features. However, I did go back and rewatch some of the videos for the new features and read the blogs with more detail on how they will work, which got me really excited for the game again. I figure we're less than 3 weeks away from it's release now, so I want to know who else is really excited for customized playbooks and customized conferences? What are you going to put in your playbooks? What conferences/divisions are you going to make? Is there anything else that you are excited for that I should be excited for as well?

I'm probably going to add ND, Mizzou, Pitt, and Navy to the B1G and have an A division and a B division. The best teams will be in A and the others will be in B. Then, I'll switch a couple of teams each year. I'm also determined to create a "Don't mess with Texas" division with Texas, TTU, TCU, TAMU, Houston, Baylor, SMU, Rice.

As far as playbook, I'll probably have a bunch of Shotgun, Pistol, Wildcat, Wishbone, and Flexbone for lots of option/power running and some quick passes to the outside. I figure that type of stuff will probably make Denard look like the god that he is going to be in this game. I'll probably try the 3-3-5 as my base defense this year, but if that doesn't work out, then I'll switch back to the 4-3.

I'll be getting it because of much better custom conferences and the ability to be an OC/DC, but I don't think the gameplay looks much different unfortunately. I'll probably make superconferences a couple years into my dynasty.

My friend and I play an offline dynasty together. We're pretty good at finding and exploiting weaknesses in the AI. Well, the two that we used in 11 are getting patched in 12 with enhanced AI for zone coverage, so that will change. Also, they are updating the tackling engince so that you can't shake off a tackle if your momentum stops. That should make things a little more level for faster defenses against power offenses.

I missed custom playbooks so much last year, it drove me crazy.  That custom conference feature should be pretty sweet as well, I am looking forward to messing around with that.  I can't wait to see an updated Denard ranking too, I am curious to see where they rank him overall and where they rank his speed.

Im going to make Michigan the National Champion year in and out, recruiting 9 five stars every year and only 2 players at each position (not enough phone time to swing more than that)

Secondly, Denard will win 2 heismans, and Gardner 1.

Shane Morris wll have a Road to Glory 4 Heismans, and Demar Dorsey will be enrolled at Michigan this fall.

I have been away from this game for some time.  What web sites or other resources are there to learn about recruiting/teambuilding and other "non-football" activities in the game?

The first thing I am doing is changing the names of Leaders and Lengends to something else. Not sure what I am going to rename them, but it will certainly be something better. Also, cant wait to create my playbook. This game has a lot of promise. I know there has been some talk of online dynasties. My buddies and I had one last yr and it was a blast. We are always looking for more guys. We play on the ps3, my psn is MAIZEandBlue2. Add me if anyone is interested in playing. I know the game doesnt come out for a few more weeks, so just getting the word out.

I just had another idea. Use two conferences as one with elevation and relegation. Have the top 8 (1 seed) and bottom 8 teams (4 seed) in one conference and the other 16 (2 seed and 3 seed) in the other conference. The winners of the 1 seed and 4 seed will play in the conference championship as will the winners of the 2 seed and 3 seed. Then, you just have those winners play in a bowl game for all the marbles.

If you did this will the B1G and the MAC, the B1G teams should be good enough to stay in the MAC and you can schedule rivalries as OOC games. If they fall to the 4 seed, then they just become protected rivalries.

If you're going to add rice, don't forget about utep. I was thinking of making a texas conference as well, maybe play two dynasties: one as t tech and the other michigan (duh)

I thought I remember a thread last year where people were talking about how well it works out.  I don't remember if people were getting it earlier or later than the release date.  Getting tired of playing Geometry Wars while on the elliptical and need to get this game as soon as I can.

Dynasty progression made it unplayable after 3-4 years. Recruits coming in way to low. Kickers missing extra points all the time. CPU logic was terrible(have 10 QBs in one class) which lead to things like QBs playing OT ect. It was awful. As someone who plays 10+ in dynasty it was pretty much a broken game in my eyes. It could have been avoided with simple testing. They got my $60 last year. Not this year.

would be the old southwestern conference minus arkansas. and I agree with adding UTEP to that. Not sure about the B10 with 16 teams. we can get away with 12 but 16?

Theoretically you could remove everyone from a conference, right? If that's the case this makes online dynasties A LOT better. I was sick and tired of either a) everyone is in one division in one conference and no one ever wins the conference let alone the MNC. or someone gets lucky and gets dropped in the MWC and rolls everyone even on Heisman. If you could remove everyone from the conferences and have all independents you can schedule whomever you want every single year and make sure no one plays anyone outside of the preseason top 10 and each other.....

I am looking forward to the custom playbooks the most. I will be tweaking mine for a while when waiting for named rosters to be released. Probably going to feature a fair amount of Power I running game, but I'll need to find a way to fit Denard in well (since general shotgun running looks to still be broken).

I guess we will see about the shotgun running, but I have a feeling that it should be inadvertently fixed. The problem always seemed to be that the linemen would warp of of the blocks and tackle the runner, but with the new tackling engine that shouldn't happen anymore. If they do manage to get off the block, the runner's momentum should still carry him through the tackle. The other problem was LBs always being in perfect position to stop the run. If the new zone coverage engine works then the linebackers should follow the receivers and open up holes for the running game. We'll see, though.

Well the changes about removing the suction of blocking/tackling should help. Also lets hope the linebackers pay attention to their zones (from videos I saw the nightmare jumping of linebackers seems to be all but gone). What I moreso meant about shotgun running is there always seems to be this delay with handoffs or option runs where the defensive line ends up in your face before you have barely moved. I think this was their broken attempt at making sure people couldn't cheese with Denard/Pryor/Newton and other fast quarterbacks but it just feels wrong. It seems to be fixed slightly but not to what it should be.

Denard rated as 94 overall i think and one of the top 5 quarterbacks in the game.

Also notable, Michigan is now only a 5-star prestige and not 6.
