OT: Michigan Sports/Memorabilia Rooms?

Submitted by rdonahue87 on January 16th, 2023 at 6:19 PM

Anyone collect Michigan (or Detroit?) memorabilia and have a room (or rooms) set up to display said items?

Moved into a new house about a year ago and have been working on doing this.

The front room in my house is where I keep most everything. Highlights include a University of Michigan Shuffleboard table and a wall full of single signed 8x10 photos. Each photo is authenticated by PSA/DNA, JSA, or Beckett. Most of the rest of the stuff is Detroit related but I don't have enough rooms to separate everything.

Garage is a work in progress but doesn't really have anything Michigan related, just Detroit.

You have no idea. It's the first room you see when you walk into my house, so it's gotta be done right....and then of course it's way up in the air so you need a tall ladder.

I'm also paranoid about earthquakes and/or would-be thieves so every picture is hung with a security hanger which makes it even more difficult because there's attachments at the top and bottom that have to line up correctly and there's wall anchors at each attachment point so you really can't afford to make many mistakes.

I feel terrible for whoever buys this house from me as there are going to be so many large holes on the wall.

The finished part of the basement at my old house was like this... walls were painted blue, I had 2 Michigan fatheads, has a fathead of UTL1 with the program above it... also had other memorabilia in the room  along with a lot Michigan stuff... then we moved into our current house which is a tri-level and space around the bar has a good chunk of Michigan stuff there...

I don't have a dedicated room, just items displayed throughout the house. Unfortunately this happened yesterday when taking down the tree: 1989 National Champions.

This may be way to anal about things, but if you haven't thrown it away.  Years ago my folks had got a Rose Bowl ornament that got damaged before they gave it to me.  My father, being the solution biased individual he was, got a styrofoam ball the size of the ornament and put the pieces around it usingt Elmers.  I have that ornament to this day and damaged as it is, it really has meaning to me.

I have a ton of stuff (Michigan, Red Wings, Lions, Tigers, Pistons, beer, and Cal)

Some of it is up in the shop. Basement is unfinished but as soon as I finish it it’ll get decorated with all the stuff that’s just sitting in boxes since I moved here 3 years ago

I love seeing all these because they remind me of my home growing up. My dad set up an incredible “Michigan Room” that was covered in Block M wallpaper, and then covered in old M pennants, bumper stickers, newspaper clippings from great games, a painting of Bo running out to the M-club banner, etc. He had a brown jug, and an M football helmet filled with all his ticket stubs (pretty much every game since the late 60s). It was…incredible. There were only two non-M things in the room: a weight machine and a punching bag. You better believe those got used with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Just writing and thinking about it makes me miss my dad like hell.

So much effort, but it's worth it. Every time I look at the wall I just think how much empty space is left....but it's getting harder and harder to find more guys to add as I'm pretty strict with who gets to be there.

Really want a Brendan Morrison signed photo but I've never once seen one in a Michigan jersey. Tried contacting him via every social media channel he has, but obviously my story didn't interest him much.

Looking good OP! I am building my collection, which includes signed pictures, jerseys and most recently a mini helmet signed by BC2. What I am most proud of, is my ticket collection. I've had to purchase a few old stubs on eBay due to the digital wave but it is fun to look at them and relive the memories.
