OT Lions Thanksgiving Game Tickets

Submitted by MaizenBlue93 on November 21st, 2022 at 11:34 AM

Before the Lions won yesterday I saw tickets going for as cheap as $90 after fees. Now the cheapest tickets are over $200 after fees.

Does anyone know if the tickets for this game are traditionally this expensive and hard to get, or is it a function of both the opponent and the Lions being back in the playoff race?

Would you expect ticket prices to drop throughout the week/day of game?

Wow - I never knew the Lions were bought on that same fateful day.

That's a weird Extra edition of the paper, FWIW.  The big headline, but then none of the above-the-fold stories are actually about the JFK murder.

I get it, they just wanted to get the Extra edition out on the street, but still weird.  I bought an Extra edition of the Detroit Free Press at about 3 PM on 9-11-2001, the 12-or-16 page edition was exclusively about the attacks.

edited....unrealistic  "optimism"....   pessimism is always warranted when the lions are the topic

it seems like every pre-season the lions do well and the fan base is excited that 'this will be the year'   and they typically end up in the bottom of the NFC North by mid season....

then as the season rolls on, they string together a couple wins in a row and the fan base starts saying crazy stuff like 'they can still make the playoffs'.

that's all i'm sayin'

They have made the playoffs sometimes, though it didn't end well in those years either.

I remember being a Lions fan -- my first year watching football regularly was as a 10-year-old in 1991.  In particular I was hooked after Desmond's catch vs ND.  I got to see Michigan go 8-0 in the Big 10 and crush OSU, and the Lions go 9-0 at the Silverdome and crush the Cowboys twice.  Was a really fun year until both seasons ended with decisive losses to two different "Washingtons."  That '91 "hogs" team was the best NFL team that I think ever existed.  And that '91 Washington Huskies team is probably a top 3 college team in my lifetime (with '95 Nebraska #1).

However after Barry retired and I went off to college, I found myself with less time to spend watching football on Sundays -- had homework, a social life, and other things to do.  Always preferred the college game anyway.

I did catch the end of that Cowboys game (2014?) a few years back and the Lions were royally, mafia-level screwed by the NFL who seemingly did Jerry Jones a blatant favor.

And since I wasn't feeling well I watched the full Lions game yesterday for old time's sake, and hey, what do you know, they looked like a legit good team.  I'm not there yet, but I'm sure many are ready to be hurt again.

No idea, though honestly it wouldn't surprise me if some Buffalo fans who headed to Detroit for the Browns game decided to stay the whole week and pick up tickets they hadn't previously planned on purchasing.

Or maybe it's the 3-game win streak, I don't know.

Lions' Fan optimism plus Bills Mafia (great set of traveling fans). If I were a Bills fan, I would have left Friday and drove to Detroit and stay until Friday morning after the game.
