RIP. Who is Joe Flaherty?
What a cast! Flaherty was Guy Caballero, the owner of SCTV. He sat in a wheel chair even though he could walk.
Not sure the best ensembles of SNL can beat that one
One of the greatest on-screen troll jobs of all time.
You WILL NOT make this put ya JACKASS.
That's sad. He was so good on SCTV and basically played everything straight which was a big part of his humor.
Count Floyd was so funny......

What is this, Bergman? Who booked this, Prickly? Depression can be very scary for adults!
The guy on the left was funny, too. Died way too young.
Johnny LaRue, host of "Jumping for Dollars"...
SCTV was the funniest show on TV in the 70's, which is no shame for SNL at that time. SNL spent a lot of time searching for edginess in their skits, but SCTV was laser focused on just being funny. RIP, Joe.
For a second I thought it was that guy from Channel 50 who used to host the Halloween week movies.
That was Count Scary but I think they were related
Re Count Scary: Imitation is the sincerest form of Flaherty.
Wow. That was a throwback reference.
Sir Graves Ghastly anyone?
Loved him on SCTV and I was stoked when I saw him on Freaks and Geeks. RIP and thanks for years of laughs
The dad from Freaks and Geeks. One thing of note, for anyone who watched that show. On the final episode, Lindsay had gotten a spot in some summer program at Michigan, which was a big deal, but in the end, she decided to follow the Grateful Dead around with her friends. Bad life decision.
Agree. Especially given that it took place in the 1980s.
Disagree.
You're 18. Live a little. Lindsay was gonna turn out just fine. So go to college when you are 20.
If it had been any other school...........
Sorry, I have to do this.
Q: What does one deadhead say to another when they run out of mushrooms?
A: This music kinda sucks.
Slowly (not slowly) time marches onward. All the great ones from my college years are going away. I loved to watch SCTV along with Saturday Night Live back in the day. Loved laughing my ass off. I knew who John Candy was before the rest of the world ever heard of him. Joe, Rick, Eugene, Andrea, Harold, Martin, Brian, Catherine. All famous today. Brilliant Brilliant writing. We watched them at Chicago House West Quad when we weren't out at Dooleys or Ricks. So much fun. RIP Joe. *sigh*
That's a stale mushroom.
To be honest, unlike everyone I know, I hate freaks and geeks
I had a friend who hated freaks and geeks.
You know where he is now? He died.
I wish I could upvote this more
He had bit roles in what seems like a third of the films made in the 1980s and into the early 1990s too. He was the doorman in "Who's Harry Crumb?", the border guard in "Stripes", a patient in "Innerspace" and General Raymond in "One Crazy Summer", just to name a couple roles.
He was also really, really funny. RIP.
Loved him. RIP
I always put SCTV right alongside Monty Python. Flaherty was a key writer on the show too. Count Floyd's (Floyd Robertson) Monster Chiller Horror Theatre was an all timer. His Robertson character was also the co anchor, with Levy of the nightly news. I still laugh when I remember the time he showed up for the news stinking drunk and still with the Count Floyd hair. ALL his characters where fantastic.
I am forever thankful for the Ontario tv stations we picked up in the late 70s. I got to see Monty Python, SCTV, Benny Hill etc instead of the junk on local stations, except for The Ghoul of course. Still recall SCTV spoofing Fantasy Island, Ben Hur and many more. Great stuff, miss you Joe!
That's a bummer. I always thought he was funny.
He played a Soviet border guard in Stripes with a cast that starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Warren Oates, John Candy and Sean Young. He was a kick to watch.
SCTV was so good. Canadas version of SNL
My best friend introduced me to SCTV when I was in the 7th grade. Great show and Flaherty as Guy Caballero was one of my favorite characters particularly during the Towering Inferno episodes. RIP.
For their time:
Monty Python > SCTV > SNL
