OT-KU and Bill Self a familar road.

Submitted by HAIL2VICTORZ on

Bill Self gets a pass by many.  Being Lawrence Kansas the local media and much of the school is in his hip pocket and very little is done to dig deep.  Yahoo sports is at it again sniffing around KU athletics.

If you are curious here is a TLDR of Bill Self in all of his Francis Underwood of NCAA basketball glory...

This entire piece has been previously posted on MGoBlog in its entirety. It would be a fireable offense to read this entire thing on company time.  Entirely unnecessary

Program is as dirty as it gets. After reading stuff about Sherron Collins sexual assault and having it swept under the rug and a long list other's dirty recruiting tactics I have no respect for that institution or community. Fuck em.

If you have ever been to Lawrence, you find yourself asking why anyone with tons of mad skilz and from an urban or even suburban area would willingly choose KU over other top-dog programs that arent located at least 45 miles from the nearest fun place to go.

I have no idea if Kansas is dirty or not, but people could make the same argument about Ann Arbor, especially when factoring in the weather.  The fact is, tradition matters for recruiting, and Kansas has it.  It's not surprising that they recruit well.

Although Kansas as a whole is probably not much to dream about, I believe Lawerence is routinely listed as one of the best, most iconic campuses in the country. I've been there before expecting wheat fields, farms, etc. However, the town is pretty cool and reminds me a lot of Boulder, CO (just without the mountains...very similiar vibes though).

You cannot remotely compare Kansas to Michigan in the improper benefits department.  Kansas is pretty well known as a team whose boosters are quite "active" in player procurement.

When Michigan cheats with the big boys, they recruit classes like the Fab Five.  When they have a coach who headed the NCAA Ethics Committee, they have years like this one where they couldn't "reload" fast enough to replace the players they developed.

"Same argument in Ann Arbor?"  Puh-leeze...

We're really not in a position to complain here.  The Ed Martin scandal was one of the largest (in terms of the amount of money changing hands) in NCAA history.  And actually, we weren't even really punished that severely.  We just happened to make a couple of poor hires.

This is the funny thing that many don't get.

The sanctions may have derailed UM for the 90s, but UM was very close to hiring Rick Pitino in the early 00s.

Who knows where Michigan would be if Pitino was hired. Probably would have a couple of championships in the 00s instead of misery.

I live in Kansas, about a thirty minute drive from Basketball Central (where nobody pays attention to the brown prolate spheroid ball).  And while I have no idea how many NCAA rules are quietly broken in the shadows, I'll say this:  winning makes a difference.  There are people around here who offer up a sinister laugh when KU loses a basketball game, but they don't get to laugh as often as they'd like.  Me?  I like to watch a well-played game, so if they play well, I'll watch.
