OT: Kendall Coyne Schofield competes in NHL All Star Skills Comp Event
Just yesterday Kendall Coyne was named a replacement for Colorado forward Nathan MacKinnon at the 2019 NHL All-Star Skills fastest-skater challenge as part of the All Star Weekend. Although she was originally going to demonstrate the challenges, Coyne became the first woman to compete in an All-Stars skills competition. In July of last year she married Michael Schofield. And compete she did. She finished 7th of the 8 skaters, but was only about 1 second behind Connor McDavid. That is some serious speed. Thought it was a great idea by someone in the league.

She looked incredibly fast in the Olympics, and did great tonight. Thought it was a pretty cool idea as well and she didn't disappoint.
Loved the "USA" chant from the Sharks crowd too.

There should be a fastest skater competition for the goalies only. And it should be short-track style, not timed. And (obviously) they need to be in full pads. It would be incredible carnage. If the NHL were smart, they would make the skills competition actually fun.

I realize this was meant as a joke, but what is lost on most fans is that goalies are typically among the very best (if not the best) skaters on the team.
And, yes, 100% agree on making the skills competition fun. It used to be can’t miss TV before they ruined it. Heck, that has to be something fifteen years ago now. Such a shame.

How do you figure goalies are among the best skaters in the team ? That’s an outrageous claim.

I know plenty of goalies, including my brother, who are very talented skaters but I agree that they are not always the best true skaters on the team.

Yeah dude, no. None of the goalies I've played with are the top skaters on my teams. No doubt they are craziest dudes on the team, but the best skaters they are not.

Very cool...

My only complaint is that these skaters should wear helmets while taking part in this contest. Catch an edge while skating at this speed and bad things can happen. The NHL should know better.
