OT-Harvin, Tate test positive for the wacky tobacy
When will people realize that marijuana makes you a better athlete? And run faster? And win at sitting still and being quiet? And make me link a story from ESPN?

i have no problem with this.

this
so many athletes have tested positive for marijuana it makes me wonder why it's such a big deal. obviously it's not hurting their performance.
that make you a better athlete, I knew Adrian Arrington was destined for NFL greatness when he was charged w/ beating up his girlfriend. He was taking the Bobby Hull, Warren Moon approach to things.
The more I think about it I bet they were just smoking together and watching film and dissecting defenses.
The Tate in the header got me a bit scared for a second
positive for awesome. And his DNA suggests he is a direct decendent of Jesus.
That he doesn't get crucified early.

Tate and Tebow are brothers? Since when?
The Tate in the header got me a bit scared for a second
It has certainly happened before with those under the tutelage of Marv Marinovich.
No. That was only after they got away from him. Oh, wait...

Marijuana is made to be a bigger deal than it really is.

it's only made to be made into a big deal becuase IT'S ILLEGAL! Honestly I think it should be made legal, but until that time anyone who does it can go to jail. This reflects on a persons character, which would concern people during draft time. It doesn't mean they won't be successful in the NFL, it's just a red flag.
Smoking marijuana.
Assault and battery.
Both are illegal. Would you judge someone convicted of the latter in the same fashion you would judge someone convicted of the former?
I would consider smoking weed less illegal than running a red light. Running a red light kills people, and when it doesn't it still often causes property damage. Weed? It makes me eat a little more. Oh, and laugh.

It makes me question their focus and drive. I don't smoke, but I know that if I did, I would be able to quit for a couple 3-4 months so I could get paid an extra couple MILLION DOLLARS! (I assume they are doing piss testing and not hair testing, which in that case you would only have to stop for a few weeks) I mean, Tate is screwed. He not that big of a name, i think they were projecting him late 3rd early 4th. This might sink him the the 6th or so. That's a lot of lost money. Harvin on the other hand, i don't think that affects him at all. The last couple mock drafts had him slip from the late 1st to early to mid 2nd. With a 4.39 combine 40 time, he won't drop lower than what he already is because the mid 2nd round is a steal for a WR/RB/KR with that kind of speed.
I agree. What would bother me about these kids is not that they smoked weed, but that they were not smart/disciplined enough to cut it out for a few months in order to improve their chances of making millions of dollars. The draft is arguably the most important event in these guys' young lives, and they could not act maturely even then. If I'm drafting college kids and I know they are going to cost my millions, I would be worried that this boneheadedness will likely sprout up some time in the future.
And for the record, I do not think that marijuana should be illegal. But if you know it is illegal, for pete's sake use your head and knock it off for a few weeks.
I know we've talked about this before, but guys - it's just weed. I doubt the coaches and owners really give a shit about this.
But doesn't a positive combine test mean the player will spend his entire career on some list that means he will be given random drug tests much more often?
The drug test at the combine is really just a 'stupid test' which these guys failed on. Doesn't mean they can't play in the NFL but come on guys... just stay off the stuff for a little bit.
For the record - I smoke pot occassionally (one a month, maybe), so this isn't coming from the "Weed is bad" school, BUT:
If you showed up drunk to an interview, wouldn't the company be justified in wondering how important the job was to you? That you couldn't just not drink for a short period of time before the interview?
Well, how is this different. These kids KNOW they're going to have to undergo a drug test, they KNOW that it could very well hurt their earning potential (see: Warren Sapp's slide down the draft) and they STILL can't lay off the shit for a few months? If I was a GM, I wouldn't be afraid that it impacts their performance, I'd be afraid that they were more concerned with smoking weed than they were playin in the NFL.
