OT: Go Surya Sabhapathy!

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on
Tonight Surya represents Big Blue in the Jeopardy College Championship. If you read my analysis last time, I expect her to do better today because she seemed to find the necessary clicker rhythm late in DJ last week. She's taking on two Ivy Leaguers, time to show her why Harvard is the Michigan of the East.

Can't wait to see how she does on Thursday/Friday. The key is playing smart and not leaving your time outs on the board at the end of the game. They're not redeemable for points you know!

One of my biggest bummers when I found out I was going to be on the College Championship was that they would not let me wear my rocking Michigan hockey jersey (1996 National Champions vintage) because it was "shiny". So I rocked a pair of M-Den selections, but did not switch between weeks, because you dance with the horse who brung ya. (Yes, I realize that last part makes no sense. It sounded good when I said it when I was there, and then it became a thing and a thing.)

My friend Pete represented Michigan in 2007: http://www.michigandaily.com/content/student-contends-jeopardy-champion… I think on the first show he beat the guy from UCLA that ended up winning the whole tournament. Whenever we hung out in the fall of 2007, people would actually come up to him asking, "Hey, weren't you on Jeopardy!?" (He thinks it's because he wore the hoodie he wore on the show all the time.) In case anyone's wondering, they actually don't let you wear your own hoodie but purchase one for you.

As I posted in the other thread about Surya, I went to high school with her and was involved with her in several academic-type activities. I was a senior at the time, she was a freshman or sophomore, and she was schooling everybody. Incredibly smart, and very, very nice, too. Glad to see she's kicking ass out there.
