OT: Figaro replaced in rotation

Submitted by Seth9 on
Alfredo Figaro was sent down and LHP Luke French was recalled after Figaro's disaster of a start against Houston. French will start against Minnesota on Friday. He had a relief appearance against Oakland in his Major League debut earlier this year. http://beck.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/06/figaro_sent_down_french_to_sta… Thoughts?

but French made his debut vs Oakland. Anyways, I'm encouraged by Figaro's stuff, but he's clearly not ready yet. He doesn't command the slider like he needs to at this point. It gets left up a lot. However, he looks like he could be good down the line. French has been the hottest pitcher in AAA thus far. I'm excited to see what he can offer.

French did work out of the bullpen for about week this year. I saw him doing a bullpen session on Sunday with the Toledo Mud Hens Manager, and a Tiger guy watching him in Indianapolis yesterday, and he looked pretty sharp.

I'm hoping that somewhere down the line, Figaro throws a no-hitter at Comerica or wins a big game or otherwise does something awesome so they can play FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO FIGARO!!!! over the loudspeaker.

Figaro needs to learn the art of pitching in the minors, but his physical tools are undeniable. It is a pity that the Tigers don't use the same organizational philosophy as the Wings, because this is a guy who would do well to sit and learn for at least 2 or 3 years in the minors.
