OT: Federer vs. Nadal, Aussie Open semis

Submitted by goblueram on

The great rivalry is renewed tonight Down Under in the Australian Open.  The GOAT (greatest of all time) against the man who has owned him.  Rafa has a strong winning record against Federer in the Slams, and Roger has not beat him in a Grand Slam since 2007.  Fed is coming off of major wins over Tsonga and Murray and is playing his best tennis since at least 2012, while Nadal just took out the so-called "Baby Fed", Grigor Dimitrov.

Who knows how many more matches we will be able to see in this glorious rivalry which has produced the greatest match of all time, as well as quite a few other classics.  So set your DVRs or wake up in the middle of the night for this one if you want to see some entertaining tennis.

Go Fed. I'll be watching on the west coast. It's a gift to get another grand slam match between these two. They'll probably go down as the greatest two men's players ever.

my alarm for 3:30 am?

hmmmm...no!

But I did just set my DVR and plan on taking a look during morning coffee.  Just not a big enough tennis fan to suffer sleep depravation for the sport.  Even for a classic match like this one between two all-time greats of Men's Tennis.

Go Roger!

Rafa has had that bad blister on his left hand hamper him the past couple of games. Not sure if he can hold up against Federer carrying that.

Tennis has been so good these past few years, and these two are the major reasons why. I'm strictly a casual fan, but I find this rivalry tremendously compelling, one of the best ever.
And it is now in its sunset--we may never again see these two face each other in match of such consequence. I hope it's good. They are the loci of a golden age.

and another disappointing match between the two. Fed had his time alas - he cannot get past Rafa anymore.

I really really hope we don't find out, at some point, that guys like Rafa were doing some sort of PEDs.

I'm afraid I'm confident that at least a few top tennis players are. Quick recovery from both injuries and from punishing matches, remarkable endurance, incredible strength and speed...
Plus, nameless "high profile" tennis players have been seen in doping clinics by other dopers. At least, that's what they say.

Nadal never concedes a point.  With or without PEDs, that's a huge part of what makes him so tough to beat.  No one puts in more work out there than he does.

I taped the match and watch it this morning. As soon as Fed lost the first set tiebreak, I knew it was over. Nadal is just ridiculous right now and I thought the only two with a shot to beat him were Murray or Djokovic. Oh well....Let's Go Stan!
