OT: European Championships - Group A Final Day, 3:00pm EDT ESPN and ESPN2
Two games today that start at the same time. Schweiz v. France and Romania v. Albania. All I know is that France is safely through to the round of 16, but I am too much of a simpleton and too lazy to see how the other teams playing today get through. Switzerland for sure goes on with a win or draw.
As 16 of the 24 teams advance, there will be four third-place teams (out of six groups) who qualify, so there is still something at stake for nearly every team in the tournament.
France (6 points) is qualified but is still playing for first place in the group. A win or tie gets them first, while they would finish second with a loss.
Switzerland (4 points) wins the group with a win, finishes second with a draw, and either second or third with a loss.
Romania (1 point) most likely needs a win to qualify. A combination of a Romanian win and Swiss loss will leave it up to goal differential, as the two teams tied their game.
Albania (0 points) needs to win to have a chance at becoming a third-place qualifier.
Winning the group is not that important in some cases. Portugal would have to face Belgium if they won their group. If they end up 2nd, they probably play Slovakia or Wales.

The Group F standings:
Hungary - 4 pts
Iceland - 2 pts (2 goals scored, 0 goal differential)
Portugal - 2 pts (1 goal scored, 0 goal diff.)
Austria - 1 point
It's very much up in the air. Portugal could still win its group. Any of the four could still advance.
Portugal's in decent shape still.
If they get a tie in the last game, they will finish at worst, 3rd in their group with 3 pts.
That would put them ahead of the 3rd place team in the only group that has already finished, Albania.
Both have 3 pts, but Portugal would have a goal differance of 0, while Albania is at -2.
So Portugal would only have to be better than 1 out of 4 remaining third place teams. 3 of those groups will be decided before they play their last game, so they'lll have the advantage of pretty much knowing the minimum result they need to advance.
