OT: Being Lenny Dykstra

Submitted by MAgoBLUE on

Here's 3 video segments of an interview with a Philly news station.  Nails is wearing a lime green shirt with a flannel jacket and a cowboy hat.  He has a glass of what looks like booze.  He compares himself to Gandhi. . .

Going to Phillies games in the 90's, and sitting in the outfield.  There, right below us, would be Dykstra, and anywhere within 6-10 feet around him would be unmistakably visible pools of chew spit  all over the turf.  He'd also turn around and talk to the section directly behind him at regular intervals, and his language was typically set to SAILOR.

I don't think he was as mentally disheveled back then as he is now, but let's just say none of it comes as a surprise these days.

I have lived near Philly my whole life.  My seven year old self idolized the '93 Phillies - the first sports team I was ever crazy about.  As an adult, I can't get over how ridiculous every single one of those players was, in retrospect.

Highlight for me: shades of Allen Iverson around a minute into the Mitch Williams video..."It's a business, man, it's a business, it's a business.  We're in a business"

The attitude is vintage Philadelphia.  I can't decide whether to hate it, or to laugh and love it.
