OT: 22 y/o Michigan student wins Ann Arbor City Council race
"Ackerman, who ousted four-term incumbent Stephen Kunselman in the Aug. 4 primary, is unopposed heading into the Nov. 3 general election."
"Ackerman ran with support from Mayor Christopher Taylor and his allies, waging an aggressive campaign and knocking on thousands of doors in the 3rd Ward.
In the end, he pulled off a surprise upset, winning by 40 votes — in large part thanks to a lopsided 345-171 victory in the Burns Park area, his home turf."

Can we please address the fact that there was a councilman named Kunselman?

Kunselmann had the majority in every precinct except for Burns Park. The rest of the 3rd ward - you know, the shitty parts of town - aren't too happy to have a Chris Taylor lackey representing the ward. But I guess that's what happens with ~10% voter turnout.

If the prospect of Ackerman's victory is this bothersome to 3rd ward residents, why didn't more of them show up at the polls?

Maybe reasons for poor turnout to a midterm, primary election held at the beginning of August are the same for Burns Parksonians as those of rest of the precincts. Or maybe most of the 3rd ward were stuck behind the registers at Whole Food, Lululeman and Brooks Bros, ringing up Burns Parksonian's purchases. Maybe access to the polls is more difficult for some than others. Maybe it's stupid that Ann Arbor is one of only 3 cities in the state that still holds partisan elections for city government. Maybe it'd be better if the election was decided at the general election instead of the primary.
