Oregon St playing San Jose St on CBS

If you're doing nothing else of importance, give this game a watch.  Not only is the good OSU a ranked team, but they could use some extra viewership as they try to find a landing spot for their sports teams.

(I'm also going to try to watch WSU when possible this year.)

Have to feel for Jonathan Smith.  He's sort of their version of Harbaugh, an alum ex-QB who came back to a program in bad shape and turned it around.  Last year they won 10 games (including a win over UO) and they're ranked now.  This is about as strong as their program has been in a long time, and yet they're apparently going to be left out of the Power 5.

Obviously this is just a little good natured ribbing, but it offers an opportunity to share how good Oregon State athletics actually is without piles of cash.  Since 2018, Oregon State is one of just two programs nationally- the other being Texas - to have its football team win at least 10 games in a season, have both its men's and women's basketball teams go to the Elite 8, and see its baseball and softball teams go to the Men's and Women's College World Series, respectively.

Aren’t Nielsen ratings calculated based on the viewing habits of people that are on their chosen panel of predetermined viewers?  So unless you’re on the panel, I don’t believe your viewing history is counted.

I used to think that whatever channel I watched was fed back to the cable company in real time, so in that way they formulated their ratings.  But pretty sure that’s not how it works. I think streaming does this via internet, but I don’t think cable has that capability. And over the air broadcasting can’t do it that way either.

PS: I am watching OSU at SJSU but it’s a boat race.
