For those who watched the USA-Switzerland match as well yesterday, one of the more pleasant things about that was Carmen Schaefer of the Swiss team, let me put it like that, at least in my opinion. We lost sadly, but then trying to make up the deficit that they had in the final ends is quite difficult.

Changes my impression of curling as a dull sport.

Grendel, I think you're wrong about the luge being rescheduled. It started right on time, about 9:30 am Eastern. The fourth and final run will be between about 11:20 am-12:10 pm EST today, with the leaders going last.

Conditions are "bad" today because the snow is so soft. For recreational skiers, it’s a beautiful day to ski with your parka open. Even speed skaters are warm!

US RESULTS:
Shaun White finished first in his qualification group, so he advances to the finals.
Danny Davis finished third behind Shaun and also advances to the finals.
Greg Bretz and Taylor Gold advance to the Semi's
All Americans advance!

Greg Bretz moves on to the finals, Taylor Gold is out in the halfpipe. Hope to see the US go 1-2-3 in the finals, but that 15 year old kid from Japan looks real good.

The British women's curling team somehow just scored 7 on the US women.

Yeah, that was a pathetic end by the US. It seemed like they had no idea what they were doing with half those throws.

Erin Hamlin of the US is in third after three runs. The last run is now and you can watch the results live. Pretty cool graphics!
11:37 EST now and there are 19 women before Erin slides into the history books.

Hamlin just won bronze in luge

First ever individual luge medal, male or female, for the US. Erin Hamlin takes the bronze.

FWIW we live out here in Lake Placid, home of USA Luge, and have met Erin a couple times. Always very classy and has signed autographs for my 3-year-old daughter.
Cool story bro, I know, but it's fun knowing (or at least having met) so many Olympians, and I always enjoy rooting for the USA or any team more if I know that the people I'm rooting for aren't classless thugs.

Shaun White takes two falls on his first pass, sits in 11th of 12. No US rider in the top 3 after the first set of runs.

After one run in the Halfpipe Finals, the standings are:
Hirano of Japan 90.75
Zhang of China 87.25
IPOD of Switzerland 86.5
Shi of China 81.00
Habluetzel of Switzerland 80.75
Ravnjak of Slovakia 72.25
Davis of USA 53.00
Haller of Switzerland 46.25
Hiraoka of Japan 45.50
Callister of Australia 40.00
White of USA 35.00
Bretz of USA 21.75
I didn't watch it live, but obvioulsy our guys at the bottom basically didn't finish their runs.
Round 2 coming up.....
EDIT:--dammit, beat to the punch. But at least you see the scores/spread. So far 3 have gone in Round 2 (no Americans), and all the scores were lower, so they are taking their 1st round scores.
EDIT 2-- IPOD just laid down a massive score for his second run. White will have to be on top of his game to have a chance at gold at this point.
EDIT3--Japanese are now in silver & bronze position. Shawn White is the last boarder up for Round 2. ZOMG the drama...
EDIT 4 Final Results:
Gold--- IPOD--Switzerland 94.75
Silver--- Hirano of Japan 93.50
Bronze---Hiraoka of Japan 92.25
4th--White of USA 90.25
10th--Davis of USA 53.00
12th--Bretz of USA 26.50
Had Shawn White gotten the same score in the finals as he did in qualifying, he would have won the gold.

Wow...Shaun White missed out on a medal
February 11th, 2014 at 1:34 PM ^
Was trying to watch at work, not sure what happened but it seemed like he had no momentum on the 2nd half of the run to land anything big enough to push him into the mid 90's.

pointing at you, Sugar Todd!
