Indy Pete - Go Blue

Incredible play-calling today.  Sherrone was deep in his bag. We out-schemed them, and even with some mistakes and failed execution - his superior coaching shined again.

And of course, Blake saves the best for last, when we needed it most, on the tying and winning drives!  Roman - that leaping catch was a championship-level play. Thanks for the priceless memories.

Oh, and JJ - you are such a winner!  Go Blue!!!

The play calling was better, for much of the game, than the execution until the game-tying drive and overtime, when suddenly everything clicked.

Thought we made some great individual skill plays at times, but most possessions ended in a punt due to dropped or slightly-off passes that left yardage and points on the field.

Best (and most pleasantly surprising) part of the offense?  The On-line.  Excellent job against a very talented Bama front seven.  Sherronne Moore had our revamped line well-prepared.

Edwards? A few carries and one pass target that I recall (a drop). It’s really mind boggling that a guy who poses a huge mismatch in the passing game if lined up against a safety or LB just doesn’t seem to be a focus for the offensive game plan.

He's only a mismatch on paper.

In real life, this season, he seems to run toward the nearest defender. Unless of course he's being called upon to pass block, in which case he runs in the exact wrong direction.

I'd love to know what's going on, but for as much as he's one lightbulb moment away from the endzone at all times, I don't think I've seen a worse "RB skills" season from anyone who wasn't buried on the depth chart. The astounding thing is that he keeps getting chances.

I'm ok shelving him and working on whatever's wrong over the offseason. He'll be lucky to be RB2 next year.

This had the feel of a game that we should have probably won by at least a touchdown in regulation if the offense could have executed a bit better at some stages (won't mention the special teams' role in this in this thread). The drives that scored looked great. Some of the drives felt like missed opportunities. Thought Moore called a pretty good game.

Congrats for showing out when needed to on that final drive in regulation and OT. Go blue!

I'm surprised there weren't more plays to the tight ends given the previews. A lot more Roman Wilson which is promising given the secondary he was up against.

I want to see JJ play one lights out game versus a top tier opponent.

In this one, he missed 3 or 4 ridiculously open reads. Now he also made 3 or 4 ridiculous throws...not even counting the flea flicker because I'm still trying to comprehend a fadeaway 35 yard pass with a spiral while Dallas Turner is running at you full speed.

Our offense - and JJ in particular - seems to function much better with a dash of tempo. It stood out in JJ’s first few starts last year, and then again in the TCU and Bama CFP games. I understand the ball control philosophy. But sometimes we plod too slowly for our own good, allowing the defense additional time to read and/or communicate with their sideline.
