Odoms Day

Submitted by gater on
Does anyone else think Odoms put money down on Illinois?  If this was basketball i would call it points shaving...seriously.  Everytime the ball was thrown at him he watched it sail past him thinking there was some receiver 2 feet behind him.  On one play he ducked so that the ball wouldn't hit him in the face...he seriously ducked...it doesn't seem like he's ready for anything but slant routes and bubble screens.

There was one noticeable instance where Odoms would have needed to lay out for a ball that Threet was throwing to Tacopants, but I don't see it as him not trying, or trying to not catch the ball.  Threet overthrew Odoms a number of times, and I'm not sure what vantage point you had [TV being better than in the stands like me] but Odoms is tiny and I really don't see him making plays on anything that was overthrown.  He was open all day and I really see him being awfully dangerous if Threet can hit him on a consistent basis.

this was odoms best game yet. he was solid on kick returns (cept for that one) and had a bunch of key catches. only one i remember was the pass down the middle toward the south endzone that looked like he couldve caught but other than that he had a good game

Odoms recorded over 300 all-purpose yards today (183 on returns, 129 receiving, 3 rushing),  The kid's a freshman.  Cut him some slack.

He and Zoltan were our best players yesterday. Did you see the game or his stats? I was pretty pissed with the game myself but post again when you've recovered your senses.

to read a post about how well Odoms played - one of our only bright spots - and how optimistic we should be for the kid's future.  And instead I read something alleging him of point-shaving.

WTF?

Odoms will be great once we find someone to get him the ball consistently.  I think he could end up being the biggest playmaker on this team.

Of all the things that I saw happen yesterday, Odoms was among the LEAST of my concerns.  And to allege that he's a coward (ducking) and a cheater (point-shaving) is really indefensible.

I contemplated hoping that you catch an STD,  but that would imply that you were getting some action.

forum post ever.  It's pretty cowardly yourself to allege that the kid is a cheater.

As Lloyd would say: "before you set yourself up as some paragon of integrity, take a look at yourself.  I think you have a responsibility to do that."

Hey Gater baite, ESPN calling, Herbstreit's penile implant exploded again and we need a replacement. After reading your post we think your the guy! Give us a call.  Herbstreit left muttering something like if he only had an inch more he'd be a king but now with an inch less he is a queen-not sure what he meant?   Gater give us a call!

I understand that the internet gives us all the capacity to say things we probably wouldn't say to a person's face, like "your post was the single dumbest thing I have ever read on this blog. Not the most offensive (though the not-even-thinly veiled accusation of point shaving is pretty offensive), just the dumbest. God, that was an ignorant post. Just breathtakingly idiotic."

But, I won't fall prey to the anonymity of the internet. Rather, I'll just encourage you to think more carefully about not only the facts of the game, like, Odoms had a tremendous game (129 out of Threet's 250 yds passing) but also the tenor of the comments you make in the future.

That is all.

No, wait... Also, you're a fucking moron.

...Dammit!!!

Other Chris wins the "Comment of the Day" award. I'm pretty confident that nothing anyone else comes up with will top that.

They should put Trent back there returning kicks instead, too.

Piss off.  Odoms had a career day.  Yeah, he still ran a couple of bad routes, and there were one or two deep balls that he could have had, but he singlehandedly kept us in the game for a long time.

When somebody posts a thread like this, I'm convinced that he just watched the postgame highlights.
