We're in trouble.

He has no athletics experience, hell, he said the other day that he just attended his first basketball game.

We've got GREAT options. Guys who've lead athletics departments and know how to build a successful department in 2015 and beyond.

If you just want someone to clean house...fine, let Hackett do that. But he's just going to be looked at as a "do boy" to the President.

He also doesn't have the athletics admin background to help our programs continue to grow. Sure our campus relations may be better, but there's more to being an AD than being a great University partner. That's just a piece of the puzzle.

Sorry, as an athletics administrator, I just get offended when they pull these guys off the street and say they can do a job they've never done. There's so much to the position that never gets publicized, that never makes MGoBlog and they no one knows or cares about. There's also parts of the job that you just have to learn by working your way up the ladder.

Brandon was actually good for Michigan in a way because it pushed Michigan in a way it hadn't been pushed in forever and now we can keep the things we like and get rid of the things we didn't like. If we would've just kept the good ol' boys network in Michigan Athletics, nothing would've ever progressed like it should've.

Now is the time to hire someone from the outside that has worked 15+ years in college athletics...we've seen the full spectrum at Michigan. Now it's time to hone in on how to truly be the leaders and the best in college athletics.

I pray we don't fuck this up.

Warde Manuel or Greg Byrne. One Michigan guy, one guy from outside of the Michigan family. Interview them both and pick the best one and be done with it.

Hackett won't be the permanent AD.  He'll do the firing and hiring of the football coach and will stay on while they commence a search for the permanent AD.  That may take several months.  At least, that's how I see it all playing out.  Getting the football coach is more pressing, the long term stability of the athletic department can come after.

I am impressed by the academic standards of the university and the quality of the students who matriculate. This whole issue seems manufactured by the media and a new president who is new to this culture. I am saddened by this article, which makes us seem like we're letting in the academic lowest of the low in order to win football games. At least that's how it can be construed. I'm not sure how Schlissel jumped to "finding a balance between athletics and academics" given the chain of events this season. I truly hope those with influence can convey how important the excellence of our athletic program is to the health of the university.

Like the regent said "if this University can'\t get this right, no one can". Well we will with this hire, like Brady said "this is Michigan for God sakes"! Go Blue always

So you interview Rick Bay and Gordon Gee for this article and suggest that the next AD essentially can't be the present interim AD because he has no experience as a big time collegiate AD...So my contention is that if our record was 9-2, this article would never have seen the light of day. In addition, I wouldn't have had to read quotes from an ex-OSU AD and an ex-OSU president less than 24 hours before a Michigan-OSU game. I remember in the 70's and 80's how people hated Don Canham for his transformation of the Michigan brand. In the end, Michigan won football games and that was all that mattered. Michigan needs a new football coach. That's the bottom line

Article is definitely interesting, but it's simply a rehash of everything we've seen in the past. I don't think that Schlissel is planning on cutting funding and salary in the athletic department. It's too important to the school for him to mess with it in a material way. This is simply a manifestation that every Michigan president (maybe, save Coleman) has wanted for 100+ years. We play tomorrow and see what happens next. I'll get concerned when something stupid happens.
