NY6 Ticket Prices
Did a quick look to see where starting ticket prices were at on Stub Hub today for NY6 Bowls...
1. Cotton $125
2. Rose $124
3. Peach $83
4. Orange $60
5. Sugar $48
6. Fiesta $14 (!)
Orange and Fiesta were the biggest surprise to me; a little surprised. Surprised Peach was 3rd.

Let's try that last part again. "Orange and Fiesta were the biggest surprise to me. A little surprised Peach was 3rd."

Surprised a playoff game is starting at $60 but perhaps everyone sees an Alabama ass-whooping as fait accompli. Oklahoma fans don’t want to pay to witness it, Bama fans are so used to success that a semifinal appearance doesn’t move the needle.

or, if you can't afford two potential playoff games, you may as well wait for the finals and just go to that one. if they lose in the final 4, better off not going anyway. that was going to my plan had UM made it.

Maybe if Michigan was playing LSU in the Fiesta Bowl...
December 20th, 2018 at 12:48 PM ^
I'm guessing that $14 would be quite a bit higher...
December 20th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
Exactly, that would be a perfect pairing!
December 20th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
Fiesta is no surprise at all. LSU vs. UCF. No thanks.
Sugar between Georgia and Texas is surprising though. Would think Texas fans would make the trip for their first big bowl game since the 2010 National Championship.

it is easy to get to Atlanta for Michigan and Florida. I'm sure Oklahoma and Alabama fans are somewhat playoff fatigued and spending a lot of money for the average fan for a semifinal isn't realistic when they've both been there a ton. Also doesn't help the final is in Santa Clara so the finals will be an expensive trip for both fanbases that make it.
I'm not surprised about fiesta. UCF isn't an old enough brand to have a massive following and LSU fans probably aren't excited about playing a G5.

I just checked the AMG Lounge Club (50 yard line/Michigan side). Tickets start at $352. Right after the game was announced most were above $500. They will be less in the coming days.
December 20th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
Tickets in the mezzanine are around $160, about the same the day after Michigan released their block of tickets.
December 20th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^
Figured there would be more interest in a Fiesta Bowl where one of the squads is playing for a back-to-back national championship!!
December 20th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Peach tickets have held pretty steady so far...

That Fiesta Bowl thing is why Michigan was locked into the Peach Bowl. Last year the G5 team went to the Peach. Next year the G5 team is locked into the Cotton. So this year was the Fiesta Bowl's turn to take the $$$ hit and host the G5 team.
The G5 is going to end up being a huge problem for FBS when it comes time to create a new postseason system. There is no way I can see for the G5 to bring any value to any postseason, because people don't watch them on TV, and people don't want to pay to see them. All of these proposed formats with G5 teams getting autobids are going to have to deal with the hard facts, including pushback from the bowls and the TV networks.
December 20th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
I'm not so sure it's that dire. I'd tune in to watch the number 1 team (Alabama this year) smash the shit out of a puffed up G5 "champ" like UCF, as the first round of an extended playoff.
December 20th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
"Alabama THIS year"??? That should probably read Alabama most years.
December 20th, 2018 at 1:28 PM ^
So why is this considered an NY6 bowl game when it's played on 12/29/18? I've read it multiple times and it's probably been on New Year's before, but why is it not this year?
December 20th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Because the semi-final playoff games on the 29th needed a "warm up band" to the main attraction.
December 20th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
The original plan was for 3 NY6 games on December 31 and 3 on January 1. The Rose & Sugar must always be on January 1 and the semifinals must be on the same day as each other.
After the second season, everybody realized that having the semifinals on 12/31 was a bad idea--New Years Eve is a workday for a lot of people. So they moved the 12/31 games to the Saturday before New Years Day (12/29 this year).
Rose & Sugar were locked into 1/1, Orange & Cotton were locked together & moved from 12/31 to 12/29. For whatever reason--some kind of rotation, I think--the Fiesta gets the early 1/1 slot and the Peach gets the early 12/29 slot.

Thanks, pretty good summary.
December 20th, 2018 at 7:10 PM ^
A couple of extra days between the semi-final and the final is actuallly a good thing--one week is barely enough time for the pros, and only the Super Bowl is played at a neutral site, and teams and fans have two weeks for that.
Probably good for the sport too, especially the other "meaningless" bowl games, without the competition of the playoff games on the same, crowded day. People who are interested will watch the playoff games will watch them whatever day/night they are on. New Year's Day games draw an audience of more casual fans and family as well--it's a holiday, there is not so much else going on, and it is a traditional "end of the season".
December 20th, 2018 at 3:10 PM ^
Makes perfect sense that a Big 10 (actually 14 teams) team plays in a NY6 bowl on Dec 29.

Just Google "Peach Bowl Wiki" ... until recently, it was a mid-tier destination. It appears like the current sponsor bought its way into the NY6.
December 20th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
Well, they did need 6 majors and the Peach Bowl had a lot going for it as the sixth major.
It is a very old bowl game and had been quite stable in terms of sponsorships as well. Also, it was in a major city--arguably the most important warm-weather city (other than maybe Houston) without a NY6 bowl, and Houston just doesn't have any kind of quality bowl history that matches what Atlanta & the Peach Bowl have.
I think only the Gator Bowl would have had the history to challenge the Peach Bowl, and let's just say that Jacksonville isn't Atlanta and leave it at that.

That it is in the "capital" of the SEC where they hold the SEC championship game had a lot to do with it.
December 20th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
I'll be going to the Peach Bowl but don't have tickets yet. What's the consensus on when to buy? I looked at Stubhub just now and tickets in the upper reaches of the stadium are now around $78, with better seats still reasonably priced. Will prices keep coming down? Should I keep waiting or pull the trigger?
December 20th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
I plan to buy mine 11am on December 29th!
December 20th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
I'm waiting. Stubhub fees are insane on the expensive tickets. Either the cost of the ticket has to come down a lot or I will buy them on the street.
December 20th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Thanks for sharing, secondary markets for bowl games are always intriguing to me. Air fare was so expensive in 16 for the Fiesta Bowl between Ohio State and Clemson that you were able to tickets as low as $60.
Insane to thank that if that same matchup was played at Ohio Stadium or Death Valley, cheapest tickets would of been $350+
December 21st, 2018 at 7:38 AM ^
How'd that game work out?
/jk, glass house.
December 21st, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
About as well as 31-0 would indicate lol. Thankfully the Clemson fans I ran into were celebrating amongst themselves and not gloating and rubbing it in to Ohio State fans, so it could of been a lot worse.
December 20th, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
When Oklahoma played Clemson in the Orange Bowl Semifinals a couple years ago you could get in for 20 bucks. Oklahoma doesn't travel well, and Bama fans will save up for the Championship game. I wouldn't be surprised to see that game drop to 10-20 bucks by game day!
December 20th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
Oklahoma traveled very well to Columbus last year. One of the largest away fan bases we've seen at Ohio Stadium.
December 20th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
If you've ever seen a UCF football game, you'd know that their fans don't have much more than $14 to spend on a football game.
December 20th, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
Due to the possibility of injury, I must consider my future and decline to attend.
December 20th, 2018 at 8:12 PM ^
Shouldn’t the players announce if they are not playing before the tickets go on sale?
I understand not playing if you are going in the first 3 rounds of the draft but........ doesn’t it seem the fans deserve to know who is playing before the tickets, flights, and hotels are booked?
December 21st, 2018 at 8:13 AM ^
HA HA HA HA HA
You are thinking like a fan, not like a money grubbing bowl executive overlord.
One of the teams could cancel and they wouldn't tell you.
