No fans allowed for NCAA tournament games in Cleveland and Dayton due to COVID-19
First step toward banning all fans from all tourney locations, it would seem.
Do fans get refunds? I'm assuming the NCAA is insured.
Sign a NIL deal in the nick of time to have an online competition with a rushed-out EA Sports College Basketball.
Or the MBB teams will just compete at Fortnite to advance in the bracket, and you can gamble on that in your office pools.
Im sure they've discussed it but that would be a dramatic overreaction. Just play the games without fans. Most people watch on TV anyways
If the goal is to slow the spread so that hospitals aren’t overwhelmed by the high-risk population all getting infected immediately, how does not playing games vs playing them without fans significantly forward that objective?
Limiting the travel to just teams and support staff, maybe a few hundred per game, or allowing also the tens of thousands of fans? You can't understand the difference there?
Either I didn’t communicate my question well, or you misread. My question was in regard to taking the next incremental step and totally canceling the tourney. How does that incremental step significantly help vs the no fans scenario?
Are you seriously confused about why risking infection of 30-50 people per game is better than risking infection of 15,000-20,000 people per game? Really?
No, re-read my question. I’m asking about the value of total cancelation (not playing at all) vs playing in empty stadiums. So the difference of 30-50 people vs 0.

Fair enough. My bad.
Expect to see lots more of this in the next 30 days
The wrestling tournament is at US Bank Stadium next week. I was planning on going. I'm... not planning that anymore. I can't imagine they allow that many fans in together.
As a mid 50s ex-smoker I'm definitely in social distancing mode. I got sick in January and damn near had to go to the hospital from my lungs filling up with fluid.
The tournament isn’t happening.
Except why not have it in front of empty arenas? You still get TV revenue. No crowds is better than no tournament at all.
The panic over this is still in its infancy. People are going to be talking about this virus like witchcraft by the end of this weekend.
You may be right. I just went to Google maps and this came up on China, Italy, California, and UM Health System:
I know someone from lexinngron that paid $8000 for three tickets for final 4 and ncaa title game and non refundable duplex rented for $1600 for the week . Be some big $ issues
I wonder when the hockey game Sunday night gets the same treatment. The only way it goes on as scheduled is if hockey in Ohio is under the radar or if fewer than 250 buy tickets.
I thought about going to the hockey game because ive been to hockey at the Schott before and can comfortably sit 100 feet from anyone.
Imagine Dayton fans if they're upset in Cleveland in an empty arena.
I was taking my dad to the Cleveland games so kind of bummed. He's pretty old so all in probably better off for him and for everyone.
On the upside: it should be a profoundly weird tournament to watch and participate in.
The Cavs would be exempt as there is no chance that would be a large gathering.
Super weird idea here, if they're going to keep fans out of the arenas, what's the upside to having them at the currently selected locations? Why not allow the higher ranked seed to host the game at their home/empty arena? That'd cut the amount of student athlete travel in half. If we're going to have bizzaro, post-apocalyptic tournament, might as well watch Michigan beat Duke for the championship in an empty Cameron.
You'd have to then prepare to have the production crew travel to potentially 32 sites instead of just 8. It would be cost prohibitive, especially since they have already paid for all the sites that they currently have
Ahhh, good call. I hadn't considered that angle of the logistics. I suppose I just sit on my couch and think the game just magically appears on the TV. Maybe they just send a single camera/camera man and then dub in sound effects like it's an NBA jam game?
