NFL Network now reporting 6yr 48M offer

Submitted by Gob1ue22 on

Ian Rapport just came on NFL network saying this is UM's 2nd offer (I know, the same guy shooting down all the other Harbaugh rumors). I know this was reported earlier on the home page of the blog as a random rumor from some Arizona reporter, but this seems to be turning into more than just a rumor.

Sources: #Michigan has made another run at Jim Harbaugh after he initially rebuffed the school. U-M has made an offer of 6 years, $48M. Wow.

This would make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in all of football (both college & NFL) at just over 8M/year.

This is news. All of this "info" that has appeared over the past couple of days has been done skillfully by agent and University. It shows the fan base that U of M is doing everything in its power to land Harbaugh. Also gets Harbaugh the most $ possible if he stays in the NFL.

but I think it's backtracking. They finally got some signs of the sweetness of the offer & that Harbaugh is actually considering it, so they're in a covering mode, easing off, because they're bo longer so 100% sure he's staying NFL

Don't like Harbaugh holding out for every last dollar from Michigan, don't like him using Michigan as negotiating leverage with NFL teams.  If the leak came from the Michigan side, I agree that it's a bad sign.  You don't leak the terms of a deal you expect to be signed.  You let the terms come out over time.

I am all for JH to be the coach. And, like most UM fans, he is my #1 choice. But if this is true, I think it's a wrong way to approach this on both sides. It looks to me like a NFL-type professional deal/transaction. No heart. No loyality.

Nothing wrong with taking what you can get. We want a coach that we had to compete hard to land. And I think that's part of who he is too. He's not going to evade the thrill of any competition, including market competition, he's going to play to win

This isn't necessarily true, IMO. Such a lucrative contract would help dampen the backlash Harbaugh may receive for taking the Michigan job, since the popular opinion seems to be that moving from the NFL to college is a downgrade. The big compensation would also be an indictment of Harbaugh as one of the top coaches in football, college or pro.

And according to a "source close to the process," it's unlikely that Harbaugh will accept, according to Schefter.  Everything about this smacks of Michigan gave it a good run, better than he thought they would, good enough to get him to consider at least, but they aren't going to get him.  Any other interpretation is wishful thinking.

Everyone interprets all these rumors with so much confidence in their thoughts. The reality is that nothing means nothing until we hear from Harbaugh or from Michigan direct. Period.

This is a good sign, right? Suggests that Hutchinson is confident that Harbaugh is coming to Michigan.

Well - my hat is off to all the Big Dogs in AA that are going all in - to try to bring Mich back to the top! This way - it is not seen as any backward move for JH also. Fuck yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thatd make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in all of football with Sean Payton. Higher than Saban, higher than John Harbaugh, higher than Pete Carroll, and higher than Bill Belicheck.

Is it coincidence this news comes out in force shortly after the resignation of Hunter Lochmann? Maybe it's true what they say about Harbaugh not liking Brandon.
