Offers:
Yohan Traore - #4
Ernest Udeh - #29
Jett Howard - #35

Ty Rodgers - #66 (Up 16)
Colin Smith - #73
Gregg Glenn III - #77 (Down 26)

Traore seems to be trending towards pro options. I think Colin Smith (visiting in September) is the most likely (in addition to Jett) to join the class. This years class seems to be targeting prospects in that 25-75 range, who will likely be 3-4 year players (or maybe we just struck out on elite 5* this year?). This on the heels of last years class, which was more top heavy with 3 McD AA as well all know. Curious how Juwan composes future classes…

As an aside, proud of a prior post where felt Reed should rise to 40-50!

I'm a little confused on why that much credit needs to be given here to be honest. Basically everyone who watched Reed said he was going to be shooting way up, from 247 recruiting dudes to random ass UMHoops posters. Mainstream sites just only update like 4 or 5 times a year so of course Matt is going to "get there first" so to speak.

I wouldn't say this year is targeting 3-4 year players; sometimes things don't go your way, even if you are Juwan Howard.

Michigan offerred Lively, Filipowski and Traore, who all sit in as top 5 players after blowing up over the summer.

They also had Clingan, Bradley and Trimble on campus...All sit in the 22-32 range

Despite that, Michigan has a very solid group of kids that are committed (if the cards fall as expected, Jett with be a part of the class)... so really, just one more slot open, though I could see Michigan pursuing 5 and figuring things out later.

Traore seems to be a kid that is going to go pro (imo) but if they can get him to visit, you never know. Smith is visiting, and I believe Glenn is also visiting.

Seems like it will be somewhat similar to the 2020 class where we ultimately whiffed on all of the 5* guys but had a solid core to fall back on. Jace was a special situation but otherwise everyone is Top 100, with Dickinson, Reed, and Jett pushing 5* status. It will be interesting to look back and see if Houstan and Diabate were more outliers than anything as 5* players who fit the Michigan model.

I think this may be a case of everything working out. We still will have pro level players, just not many one and dones, but the team may be better off with this type of construction.

Fair point, Trimble blew up over summer too relative to his initial recruitment too. Surprised to see clingan’s rise to that level, as I saw him more in the top 40 level. With the way the transfer portal is now, I say you use the last slot to plug holes via portal if any emerge and don’t max the roster with recruits.

I am a little surprised, as I heard Trimble didn't do that well in summer league. I know Clingan had a great top 100 camp, along with Reed, so not surprised with his jump.

I think they still recruit Traore to the bell, but looking more likely that Smith is the best remaining target, along with Glenn.

I don't see them adding Udeh as he's more of a 5, unlike Traore, who is athletic enough to play a 4...

A class of Dug, Tarris, Howard and Smith/Glenn would be a very good class.

  • Udeh has no business being that high
  • Traore and Filipowski are both great players but #4 and #5 seems kinda crazy
  • Shocked that Dug is still ranked that high and actually moved up after the NBPA Top 100 camp

Couldnt agree more.  Traore is a 15-25 guy right now and Filipowski, while good, is a 20-30 prospect imo.  Dug seemed slotted right before this re-rank.  Thats not to say that when all is said and done, that Traore wont be a top five guy.  Clingans uncle must own Rivals.

I disagree. Even before Yohan Traore dominated against elite competition at the NBAPA Top 100 Camp, he balled out at Adidas SMSB.

He has earned his top 5 ranking by outplaying many star recruits who were ranked higher than him.

But conservatively, I would have him in the top 10.

I want Traore at Michigan. He is a future lottery pick imo.

In my mind, Yohan Traore will be like our Jaren Jackson Jr. And unlike Izzo, Coach Juwan Howard won't have Traore on the bench for some JAG (Just Another Guy) in the clutch moments of a NCAAT. Good thing JJJ left East Lansing before Izzo could turn him into a 2nd rounder after 3-4 seasons in a Sparty uniform.

Reed has even been on record saying he is looking at one to two years at Michigan. I don’t think Juwan is necessarily stacking his roster based off of how long he thinks they’ll stay rather than their fit for the class they are coming in with and the team as a whole.

It is so refreshing and reassuring that Juwan and his staff have Michigan basketball at such an elite place. Traore will face a real life quandary when faced with the decision of which is best for his basketball future-Michigan or the G-League.
