NBA future for MAAR ?

Submitted by rockydude on

I know he wasn't a five star recruit, and he doesn't totally pass the eye test, but MAAR really does a lot of things well. You could do a lot worse than to have a guy like him on your bench. Especially good is his ability to create his own shots, valuable for a bench guy.

I don't follow the NBA, so does anyone who knows such things think he could make an NBA roster, whether by draft of as a FA ?

MAAR doesnt quite handle the ball well enough to play PG in the NBA, and he isnt quite tall enough, nor elevates enough to play shooting guard in the NBA.

I could see him floating around the NBA summer league, and maybe even making the bench of an NBA team for a year or two.  That would net him (pun intended) alot more money than taking a regular job like the rest of us shmucks.

Good kid.  Good basketball player, good team-mate, just not quite right for the NBA.  Damn shame.

MAAR has a chance to be a solid NBA back up at SG/PG

He can handle the ball, very good in transition, doesnt turn the ball over.

In todays NBA you dont really have to be a great defender,as long as you can produce on the offensive end.

My Prediction : He gets signed as a UDFA  (someone like Clippers or Dallas) and makes the roster

I can see him having a career like Vinnie "microwave" Johnson

I see a guy like Fred Van Fleet having a lot of success as a backup PG in Toronto this year, (after a year of barely coming off the bench) and I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine a potential similar career path.

That may be a slightly "rose-colored glasses" type of projection, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

Van Fleet was originally undrafted, l would think mostly based on his size.  He's "listed" at 6'.
