I was just about to post a forum topic on this, but I checked the forum topics first.
It's rumored that Austin White is the mystery commit.
I'll believe that when I see it.
I have also seen a rumor it was Mathis.
demon, I would think big will and all of the old Cass Tech guys would be working on getting him to commit.
That Mathis thing wouldn't make sense to me. And if he did commit, I'm guessing it's VERY soft. I find the White report more believable.
bad, he would be a good pick up for us. I can't wait to here how the first day of spring practice went today.
its good for michigan. but it woud be even better if it is white for the simple fact that a lot of people have him as a state lock.
White is a bit of a troublemaker and he's not as good of a football player as Mathis. I'd prefer that White go to MSU, honestly.
if he was a troublemaker in any which way, odds are michigan would have never offered him nor would they have invited him to junior day last night.
You might want to read up on White before you make blanket statements like that...
i was never denying the fact that he might be a troublemaker. but it might not be that big of a thing because michigan did offer him. i can't see michigan offering a kid that they know has issues with getting in trouble all of the time. if look back in michigan history going as far back as 15 years you will see that there were a lot of kids that michigan took flyers on that either got kicked off the team before they ever played a down (kelly baraka - had a drug charge while in HS and got dinged right before fall practice) or had to transfer out after a year or 2 because they couldn't stay out of trouble (david bowens).
Okie dokie.
Nice beagle.

thank you. LOL
There have been lots of Michigan players with issues that have one way or another stayed on the team for many years. Over the past couple of years we have:
Carson Butler
Marques Slocum
Mario Manningham
Johnny Sears
Michigan isn't above offering a person because of issues.
White's not a troublemaker in the law sense. I've heard he's quite the prima donna and wants things his way. His brother is the same way at MSU.
Austin and his dad are trying to force the coach to run the offense a certain way. Take it for what it's worth.
This is also what I've heard.

it's pre-madonna you moran.

I don't know if you're serious or not, but it's actually prima donna.

No, moran. check here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Madonna
No, I'm pretty sure it's pre-madonna. Get a brain, morans.
I happen to speak Italian for a long time, and here's my take on the prima donna vs. pre-madonna debate...
Here are the literal translations:
1)Prima donna = First lady. If we assume that a first lady has nothing specific to do, but can ask anything she wants and will have it handed to her in a silver platter so to speak, I think this would be a correct usage of the phrase. In other words, a queen type of treatment--she demands it, you have to do it.
2)Pre-madonna = Pre-Virgin Mary. Now, I have no idea what the meaning of that would be.
I am not sure what the correct English use is, but if it's no.2 i think it's logically wrong. However it wouldn't be the first strange thing. If vincible and invincible are antonyms, why should flammable and inflammable be synonyms?!
Finally, let's not call others names when you could be the one that is wrong. You might want to know that wikipedia is a very week reference if you have to use it for research papers. And because you typed it twice and it cannot be a typo, it's actually spelled moron, not moran ;).
Go Blue!
No. You don't get it moran.
Finally, a guy who's not a moran!
So you can make a sarcastic comment like that and expect the other to be aware of the existence of a photo like that?! That's freaking deep! I wouldn't try that with somebody I don't know myself. Anyway, my reply was directed mostly to Deuce. So was he being sarcastic too? You got me all confused now :).
I thought everyone knew about that picture. It's classic.
So you can make a comment like "my reply was to Deuce, not you" when your reply is located directly under my comment instead of the person in question, and expect me to be aware of your inability to work the tubes that run the internet properly?! That's freaking deep! I wouldn't try that with somebody I don't know myself. Anyway, my reply was directed entirely to you. You got me all confused now :).
don't change my words and make up stuff as you please. Use of quotation marks implies a direct quote and you're abusing it. I said "mostly to Deuce" which means initally it was directed to you too, but to a lesser extent. Replying below your post included both of you, that was the reason. I just admitted above of not knowing about the existence of that picture, and in hindsight I take back what was directed to you. To make sure I wouldn't continue my mistake, I even asked if Deuce was being sarcastic also. But you, like the better man, decided to school me on the intricacies of the Internets even after my slow realization of what was going on. I don't mind the schooling, I might need it because I'm sure I don't spend as much time as you on the internet. Times have changed and I admit I still have "old" values, like reacting when somebody is called a moran for trying to express his opinion;I am guilty of falling for that. But you continue your fine job, don't let a slow one like me divert your focus in life. Continue to memorize every comment and picture of some ignorant American, continue to quote gaffes from some not so bright American ex-President, continue to get angry at posters who don't get your sarcasm. I am sure the social, political, and ethnic groups you feel affiliated with have only wise, gaffe-free members, and most of all, they will always recognize a sarcastic quote on the internet.
Holy shit, shut up.
,,I,,
Much of what has been taken issue with (i.e. the Pre-Madonna stuff, see http://mgoblog.com/content/miami-about-drop-bryce-brown) has been discussed on various threads here earlier.
I also think the "moran" thing also has been discussed earlier on a previous thread, but I am not sure which.
Sorry for the out of topic posts.
went much better than I expected.
hate that picture now :)
The walls are closing on us! 3PO, will you listen to me! Shut down all the garbage compactors on the detention level! Do you copy?! SHUT DOWN ALL THE GARBAGE COMPACTORS ON THE DETENTION LEVEL!
They're what makes the blog colorful.
SonoAzzurro. It has to do with Madonna the singer/diva. Being a pre-Madonna means you're acting like you're as famous as she is, even though you're not.

I find the comparison of White to Mathis a bit confusing - why would having one preclude getting the other? There is a fixed pie on RBs? especially when it will likely be a position of need in the coming years (with brown and minor seniors)?
I would love to get a kid who was supposedly an MSU-lock, especially after all the negative talk about how MSU was doing so much better at recruiting in MI.
And, how a kid acts in high school does not necessarily predict how he will behave in college. There is such a thing as maturing. I know I got into trouble in high school but was pretty calm in college, and I think it was because I got all of that out of my system in high school. On the other hand, I had many friends that were pretty tame in high school and wild in college. People do change and mature.
March 14th, 2009 at 10:39 AM ^
There is rumored to be ONE mystery commit. I would rather it be Mathis than White. The fact that there is a singular commit is what precludes it from being both.
That's not to say that the other one couldn't commit down the line. I just don't want White. I'd rather have any of the other 9 running backs we've offered than White. That's partly because of his "troublemaking" and partly because of his skill, which isn't on par with most of the others.
You're right that a kid's high school actions don't mean he will be the same way in college. However, I think we can all agree that a mature high schooler is MORE LIKELY to be a mature college player, whereas an immature high schooler is MORE LIKELY to be an immature college player. Thus, if he is immature, then there is a greater chance of him causing problems when he gets on campus.

Ok, got it regarding the either or. I also agree with the "more likely" aspect. I just hate for us to make blanket decisions (on here anyway) based on based on how a kid acts in high school. Just a personal feeling that kids will be kids and they deserve a chance.
March 14th, 2009 at 11:23 AM ^
As football fans, I think we generally agree that there will be some pre-Madonna-ish behavior by a lot of these kids who are put on pedestals. The fact that this issue is constantly hovering around White makes me think that his behavior is worse than most.
March 14th, 2009 at 11:30 AM ^
FINALLY. Someone on here who knows the correct usage.
March 14th, 2009 at 12:55 PM ^
Also, isn't Dior Mathis generally thought to be a CB?
March 14th, 2009 at 12:57 PM ^
I recall reading somewhere UM would be targeting him (primarily) as a slot ninja.
Generally, yes, although some schools think he could be a slot receiver.
to have either of them. They both bring a lot to the table for us.
can someone let me know why Austin White is rumored to be the 5th commit? I thought he was a long shot at best and most likely a state commit. I wouldn't think Mathis either right away. I would've thought Williamson was that already a given?
I'm only saying what I've read on other message boards about White being the fifth commit. I don't know where the rumor started.
March 14th, 2009 at 10:00 AM ^
gotcha i just wouldn't have figured it would be White. seems like a real good prospect though. does have some character issues though..
Devin Gardner was (or should be) the assumed 4th commit, despite waiting until the end of the month to announce. Which makes D.J. Williamson the most likely 5th commit.
IMO.
Austin White would be out of left field.
March 14th, 2009 at 10:06 AM ^
I heard Austin White was getting in trouble in school with fights all the time and other types of misconduct like that. To me that seems like MSU childish things so he can go there if he pleases because that's what MSU does (50 yard plant of MSU's flag at Notre Dame). I would much rather have Nick Hill who is a die hard Michigan fan and once offered will probably commit on the spot. But from everything I heard it was suppose to be D.J. Williamson from ohio. He comes from the same high school as Prescott Burgess and Manningham and I guess he has a man crush on Manningham.
