Moderator Action Sticky

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.

You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

New Thread.

OT: Billable hours App for iphone/ipod question

OT - 10 days till GMAT - any cram suggestions?

Let's discourage the board from becoming a kiosk. The more OT things we let slide, the closer we get to the entire sidebar becoming "Jobs to Save the Environment" posters.*

* BTW - this isn't a statement about the environment (I do enough of that at my day job). It's about how every kiosk used to get completely covered by those gd "Jobs to Save the Environment" fliers.

Not permitted.

OP was passing on info and didn't name names, but the effect of such things is always going to be speculation followed by names, followed by whatever that was today plus bans.

Just 'cause another site is willing to report something doesn't mean it meets the line of cred for this site. When you're posting information, please try to maintain all of this blog's journalistic standards.

META: Just Because the Internet Is Anonymous, Doesn't Mean its Okay

I appreciate the sentiment but the more you keep bringing up the "something that might have happened" the more people will go looking to find somethihng that might have happened.

Everything discussed here is already in the MGoBoard FAQ:

Why did my post get deleted/edited?

Getting personal on college athletes usually results in a deletion, and virtually always when it's a Michigan player in question. Threads that invite flaming also get deleted. Threads with misleading titles designed to scare the crap out of readers before they click will either be deleted or edited so that their titles reflect their contents.

Threads that invite flaming also get deleted.
They may get deleted but typically not until there has been 191 comments and 15,000 page views. I know I'm not the most widely loved poster but there has to be something that can be done to stop things like this from happening again.

Threads on players and former players' personal lives will generally get deleted unless they are directly relevant (for example a guy's public website making an announcement, or like with LaMarr Woodley who uses Facebook to organize his charity efforts and keep in touch with fans).

Thanks.

OT: antasy baseball.

Mostly harmless, but nixed under the "Board's not a diag kiosk" rule.

"JOBS TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT!" people! COME SEE OBLIVION PLAY TONIGHT AT THE BLIND PIG!

Actually, Oblivion at the pig was a great show.

May be the wrong place to post this, but is there a reason other people can not see my posts?  I've been talking to myself for a few months now.  Is it something I did?

"[Player] commits to UM."

TomVH said in the comments that [player] did not want this released and that he was going to make his announcement on Friday.  Can we please delete this thread?

Deleted thread on cop who got cop of the year, but not before the conversation turned to whether iMacs are bigots.

No, you don't get to know how they got there.

Weird - You got hit with a massive points expiry.

What did you do that got pos-banged like a MF-er on April 15, 2010, around 2 to 3 a.m.?

I've adjusted you back to where you should be able to do everything again.

I'm not as insigntful as you are with this, because this is (an at least part time) job for you.

However, I've edited the thread about M's salaries and Title IX enough times that it could possibly deserve a diary. If you could make this decision I would be very grateful. I started it as a thread and it ended looking like a diary.

Either way, thank you Misopogon.

no sharp. section 1 c'mon man you know better. sharp is the coulter/kos of Detroit sports: he exists only to piss off reasonable people. anyone with so much as a functioning brain cell will never take anything he says seriously.

I unpublished both threads. Calling out "fair weather fans" is the kind of thing that happens to every fanbase. Since I can't moderate it properly and a minority have gone to fightin' words, I'm killing it off because ultimately the whole idea of superiority among fans based on old divisions is just incredibly petty.

Are you sure you want to delete OT: new Gorillaz album "The Fall"
yes.
Are you sure you want to delete "OT Casino winner"
yes. Congrats, though. Next round's on you!

Also: Dropped some hammers. If you see angry responses to things that seem to be harmless, that's the caving.

Just out of curiosity, it is now the offseason, are OT posts going to be tolerated more now? Or are they still a no no for some reason?

I'll give the OP credit and assume the post was sarcastic, but there were already at least five NCAA 2012 posts in the past couple of days--at least one of which mentioned the drum major.
