I believe this. He is a solid player but right now it's hard to say he would be better than a third round type guy. That's not enough to leave for when he has so much upside. He would be the anchor of the line next year and would certainly have the opportunity to work his way up the draft board. I love what I saw from him this year. More importantly I love the improvement he made over last year. He's looked much quicker, definitely a bit leaner and he is all over the place. I would love to see what another year does for his career.

It seems like Hurst should come back.  He could play himself into being a 1st round pick and have a chance at guaranteed millions with a good senior year.  That's not on the table now.

The more I think about it I kind of get excited. Hurst comes back, get Soloman back in the class and one or two other big fish DTs join, this could very well be a bad ass defensive line again. Won't have the experience but will have more athleticism.

Hurst coming back changes our entire outlook and puts him in the first or second round.

I hope Onwenu blows up and becomes a fucking imperial star detroyer at guard.

Defensive back and linebacker are scary next year. Hope Bush makes a major jump.

after every TFL\Sack. You make a great point we could use a guy next year to clog up that middle with belly rubs.

As for Cole it would be really nice if he hangs one more season to give Ruiz a redshirt to take that spot over seamlessly. Provided Ruiz is going to come to Michigan this upcomming recruiting class

I don't see why Cole would leave. He didn't have that great of a season (although apparently some scouts were impressed), and he could easily parlay a great senior year into a higher draft pick and more money.

That said, even if he were to leave, I don't see Ruiz coming in and starting. It's really hard for freshman to start on the offensive line - especially at a position like center where you not only have to be able to handle 300+ lb. mountains every play, but you also have to be smart enough and savvy enough to make all the line calls pre-snap. In my opinion, Patrick Kugler would be Cole's most likely replacement if he left.

Speaking of which, Kugler was about as close to a sure thing as you can get at the center position coming out of high school - son of a coach, reportedly advanced technique and understanding, etc. - but he still has yet to see serious PT

For the record, if Hurst does choose to depart, I hope he teaches big Mike Onwenu the rub technique before he goes. God knows he's already got the belly part down

Cole should stay. He struggled vs good defensive tackles and needs another year to develop. Hurst was really good at the end of the year, but didn't play that many snaps. He could be the feature guy on the line next year. As an aside, Jeremy Clark played in 4 games before getting hurt. The rule on redshirts says 3 games or 30% of the season, whichever is greater. He doesn't qualify as 4/12 is 33%. I'm not sure if making the big ten championship game or the bowl game would have factored into that number, but at 14 games he'd be getting a medical redshirt.

Would be very surprised if Cole left early. He had a LOTTTT of issues with bigger nose tackles this year where they just overpowered him. Those guys aren't going to just go away in the NFL. There's a lot more of them, and they're a lot faster and stronger there as well.

Teams will love his versatility, but he ought to come back for another year.

I would like to see Hurst and Cole stay personally - I think that measurably shifts the projection for next year if both of them do. From what I understand, based on what I've heard from folks, Hurst is definitely leaning in that direction anyway and it is good to hear that Cole is also leaning in that direction.

Hurst is a huge one. I want him to have a big Orange Bowl for sure, but I think he is gone if he does. He's been outstanding at a position of NFL need. Is think he's go high enough to make it worth his while. That said, if he comes back, you do not want to go against this d line.

It's because we are not used to having talent in the cupboard. The past 20 years has almost felt like suck, suck suck, suck, "lightning in a bottle year", suck, suck, suck, "lightining in a bottle year".

UM is not that anymore. Harbaugh has brought in incredible talent and the floor for michigan football is now much higher than it has been the last two decades.
