Michigan Stadium Open House on July 14
The Athletic Department has announced that:
the University of Michigan will open the doors to Michigan Stadium on Wednesday, July 14, to showcase the renovations to one of college football's greatest stadiums. The one-day event will run between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The east side structure will be open to the public, and the only accessible entry point will be on the south side of the stadium through Gate 2. Once inside, fans will proceed to the steps or elevators in the southeast tower to gain access to the structure. There will be no access to the east side upper concourse, east side lower concourse or west side structure. Free parking will be available at Pioneer High School.
We out of towners are looking forward to your reports and photos.
next Wednesday has suddenly been taken up on my schedule.
I'm supposed to fly out to New Orleans on Wednesday for work. I'm totally taking the later flight and spending the afternoon in Ann Arbor.
...necessary detour on your drive to DTW, right?
Exactly. Detroit ---> Ann Arbor ---> Romulus. =)
...sense to me. I'm looking forward to your post about it. I know that as soon as you get to your hotel in the Big Easy, the first thing you'll do is fire up the laptop and prepare an MGoBoard thread on your tour complete with photos.
I mean, that's what MGoShoe would do for you, MGoJen.
I booked my flight today. Because I didn't want to be stuck in the ATL (as amazing as it is) for a couple hours and get to NOLA after 11:00 pm, I'm taking a direct flight departing Detroit at 3:15 pm. I may just have to take the morning off from work to "pack" slash take a ton of pictures.
MGoPhotojournalism at its finest!
This is an excellent idea by the Athletic Department. I am really liking the way that Brandon is taking the AD.
I do have a question in addition.
Does anyone know if/when the stadium may be open for the public to go in, go on the field, etc? I've heard that they used to do that, and obviously they couldn't because of the construction the past few years, but I'm just wondering if they will ever do this again...
One of the gates should be open as normal. Keep in mind, construction won't be completely finished for I think two more years, including aisle widening, etc.
Also, the east and west structures will ALWAYS be locked, except for game days, special events, and I would think if a suite owner requested it.
Actually, that's a good question. If a suite owner had a March birthday or something, and wanted to hold their party in their suite, (assuming they owned it for the upcoming season), would U of M open it up for them to use?
I did not realize that it would take that long for all of the renovations to be done.
I wonder if the vandalism that took place there in the spring with someone cutting up the 'M' will affect the open stadium policy...
I was in one of the suites a couple of weeks ago and there was a booklet inside that said that special events could be held inside your suite year round "at the discretion of the athletic department."
Seems like a bday party would be ok, so long as no alcohol was served.
Best Birthday EVER.
Sweet! I'm going to have to go to this.
This has potential to be awesome.
Anyone know if there will be access to all areas (locker rooms, suites, luxury boxes, etc...), or is it just going to be open like a game day.
Sounds like an excuse for a tailgate party.
