More championship fever on tap!

Michigan went 2-1 in the Penn National Collegiate Rugby Championships Qualifying rounds today (7-on-7 Rugby). They defeated Texas 29-10 and UCLA 17-12. They also lost to Arkansas State 17-5. They lost in their pool to Arkansas St., but were able to reach the Quarterfinals set for tomorrow based on a point differential tiebreaker.

Championship coverage tomorrow (Sunday) is on NBCSN beginning at 2:00pm and then at 4:00pm on NBC. The remaining 8 teams are seeded as follows:

1. California  vs 8. Michigan

4. Navy vs 5. Life University

3. Indiana vs 6. Kutztown St.

7. Arizona vs. 2. Arkansas St.

Check it out if you get a chance between the baseball and softball fun- it's pretty interesting to watch.

They're amazing. I wish Michigan would let Rhino make fan apparel like other schools have.

Schools like Indiana can get the team shirts and a rugby ball.

When I watch rugby, I hear old-timey music in my head and picture guys dressed like Michigan's first Footall team playing since football was essentially rugby back then.

It's like throwback football.

An olde exerpt from the Daily, written about Michigan Rugby in September 1890:

OUR RUGBY TEAM

-THE NUCLEUS OF IT PRACTICING DAILY ON THE CAMPUS.-

The Campus has taken on a home like look this past week. Every afternoon has seen some of our canvas backed Rugby players tossing the ball back and forth or trying to kick goals. It has been cold and raw, but the spectators have had many a laugh as the boys would form an invincible V and split the wind with it, but if they have had nothing but the wind to buck against, they have at least been learning to stand shoulder to shoulder. And they are doing good work, these few who are back getting in condition by tossing the ball, tackling, breaking the line, trying the V or the gridiron, and learning the twist that gave Ames of Princeton his celebrated nick-name of “Snake Ames.”

The boys are working under Malley, who has brought back a trunk full of new tricks and has already began to teach his men a few of them. Abbott, Trainer, Hatch, DePont, Rathbone, Dygert, McAllister, Stone and Chadbourne take them as naturally as any canvas-back does to water. Of course the boys are all “soft,” and short winded as yet, but if they follow the liner laid down by Captain Malley it will be soiled meat and sand that Cornell runs up against this year.

Great accomplishment to get into the knockout stage for the second straight year.

Rugby 7s is going to be in the 2016 Olympics. Hopefully the NCAA actually adds a Men's sport for once and adds Rugby 15s and 7s as sports.

Formerly Life Chiropractic College, founded in 1974.

They're from Marietta, Georgia. An NAIA school. Rugby is the only reason I know who they are. I had to look them up when I saw them in the tournament a few years ago.

A completely full day of Michigan sports tomorrow, all with championship implications.

That was quite unexpected on the last day of May.

I happen to be the rare U of M alum and Life U alum on the board today. Life U is actually the largest chiropractic institution on the planet. The chiropractic enrollment is around 1600 out of near 5000 students overall. You wouldn't think a chiropractic school would also have a world class rugby program as well but they're fun to watch.

Still rooting for M though!
