It's going to be a crazy-tight schedule in the back-half of the season, and so if UM has any intention of making a run at the tourney I'd suggest they win a bunch of games soon because it's unlikely they'll get red-hot playing 4 games in 7 days or whatever it'll look like.

That's rather my worry, that late January, February and that first week of March will be insanely packed if much more of this occurs, and if somehow (key word right now) this teams gets a low-end tournament berth, it is unfortunately doomed to be just as unimpressive as the season thus far.

Unless this Michigan men's team has a miraculous turnaround, it does not appear that Michigan will be playing in either the NCAA or NIT tournament this season.

The only things Michigan has going for it now is that (a) it’s only 1-2 in conference and five conference teams have worse records, and (b) only four Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 25 (Purdue at 3, Michigan State at 10, Ohio State at 13 and Wisconsin at 23), BUT it’s one of three Big Ten teams with the worst overall records in the conference – Nebraska (6-10; 0–5), Penn State (7-6; 2-3) and Michigan (7-6; 1-2).

Michigan has 17 games left on a 20-game, Big-Ten schedule. Where do MGoBloggers see Michigan picking up at least nine more Big Ten wins?  Considering how this Michigan team has played, other than games against Nebraska at home, at Penn State and possibly Rutgers at home, it’s hard to envision any Big Ten games left in which Michigan will be favored to win.

In order to make the NCAA Tournament, Michigan probably will have to win the Big Ten Tournament. Although Michigan will not have to finish with a record above .500 in order to make the NIT, finishing with a record below .500 would mean that Michigan still would have a hard time qualifying for the NIT. When the NIT last was played with a full 32-team field, only one team made the NIT with a .500 record or worse – Texas which was 16-16.
