Michigan leads Director's Cup Standings (probably until at least May 12th)
The official update of the NACDA Director's Cup standings confirmed what was already widely known around these parts: Michigan is now in first place! The question now becomes how long can the Wolverines hold off the expected onslaught from Stanford's strong lineup of spring teams.
The next points to be awarded will come on May 4th when the men's NCAA Volleyball champion is crowned. The good news is that sixth-ranked Stanford was eliminated in the first round of their conference tournament this week and will not be scoring any NACDA points. Other Director's Cup contenders with ranked men's volleyball teams are UCLA, Penn State, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes also lost in the first round of their conference tournament and are done. #4 UCLA and #14 Penn State have conference semi-final games tonight. UCLA is the four seed in a very strong conference (MPS) and Penn State is the #1 seed in a relatively weak conference (EIVA). Three conference tournament champions and one wild card advance to a four team NCAA championship which awards 100 NACDA points for 1st, 70 for second and 25 for 3rd/4th. In the highly unlikely event that Penn State went all the way (or finished second), they would leap-frog both Stanford and Michigan into first place in the Director's Cup standings.
This means Michigan will most likely hold onto first place until at least May 12th, when the women's water polo title is decided. Odds are that the #1 Stanford water polo-ettes will help reclaim the cup lead, but an early upset of the Cardinal and a surprising run by #19 Michigan could be the next step in the master plan to wrest the cup from Stanford's clammy grip. Go Blue!
I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.
Where did this comment come from? Am I missing something?
EDIT: Talking about the post about the UM-OSU Rivalry, since this thread is about the Director's Cup and UM vs. Stanford.
I think NOUN has changed the NOUN on the NOUN. Hell people in PLACE are starting to VERB him. Never in a million NOUN I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a ADJECTIVE start.
Would make a GREAT Ad-Lib
Just because they are hell people I think PLACE should always remain as Ohio.
Michigan is tied for first with Indiana in the Capital One Cup. This cup is retarded and looking through it I don't see how Indiana is tied with Michigan.

EDIT: The scoring system gives more points to more popular sports like soccer in the US.
Yea, I know. I meant to say men's, the men's teams are the reason why Michigan is on top right now in the Directors Cup.
I think the Capital One Cup formula was intended to overcome the Stanford diversity advantage and showcase the big time powerhouse schools with strong major sports teams. That's why Alabama is tied with juggernaut North Dakota State for fourth place.
"no one cares who is number one in January."
I think a 2nd place finish is possible and would be darn good.
If only hockey had been good this year
If only hockey had been average this year
UM gets 90 points for 2nd place finish in BB. PSU gets 85 points for 3rd place finish in fencing. We are talking fencing, man. How many fencing teams are there anyway?
Nobody does the country club sports like Stanford.
