Michigan Football Family Legacy Wall

Good Harbaugh interview by Brad Galli.  Harbaugh talks about the new Michigan family legacy wall he is creating in the practice facility at the 4:00 minute mark.  This is the kind of thing that really sets apart our program and you can really feel Harbaugh's love for Michigan.

Is there a "turnover wall" or something somewhere with all the post-turnover team poses with the Buffs on? I never really paid much attention to it, but I found it hilarious when Harbaugh got in on one a couple games ago.

"Jim Harbaugh thinks JJ McCarthy can be the greatest QB ever at Michigan, saying he'd take him over an amalgamation of Brady's leadership, Henne's arm, Denard's running, and Leach's winning"

How the hell did they mix up Harbaugh and Fred Jackson???

That wall is really cool.  Only someone like Harbaugh would think of it.  I would love it if the photos could be digitized (they probably already are) and made accessible through the mgoblue.com website.

It's great recruiting tool to players who are part of the legacy or hope some day to be part of it.

Who's got it better than us?

I watched this short interview yesterday and was duly impressed. Who is Brad Gallis and how/why does he have such great access? His interview last season in which Harbaugh gave him a tour of his office was really cool and stayed with me.

Harbaugh acknowledges, despite his professed humility, that the legacy/family wall was his own idea. It really seems like he's invested in capturing and commemorating historic aspects of the Michigan program and legacy and this is a particularly cool idea since we have 80+ family tie connections in which grand/father/son or siblings played in the Michigan program.

From a distance you might not guess that Harbaugh is particularly nostalgic but personally I love that he is and is able to manifest it in such fantastic ways in his office and around the football facility.

Some coaches are kind of mercenary in their position, they really don't know or care much about what came before them.  But Harbaugh is actually a great Michigan football historian.

I'd love to spend time with him, not to talk about current X's and O's Michigan football, but to talk about Michigan football history.  I'll be he knows some interesting shit.

I would say most coaches are essentially mercenaries--loyal to their employer as long as they are getting paid but ready to be "loyal" to another institution as soon as the checks increase. Not surprising, really, but it makes hiring a coach like Harbaugh who played at Michigan very attractive. Plus of course he grew up in Ann Arbor (until late in high school) and his dad coached at Michigan under Bo. Not enough to make it the right hire/fit in and for itself but in our case it's turned out to be ideal.

I'm actually Jim's exact age and grew up in Ann Arbor when he did. Never met him but my best friend was a classmate of his at Tappan Jr. High. He didn't know Jim personally but said that in gym class Jim was way ahead of everyone else when they had to run laps around the school grounds!

I love the idea of sitting down with Jim and reminiscing about the olden days under Bo since that was the era when I grew up going to Michigan stadium every Saturday in the fall. But it's not clear that Jim would actually enjoy such an encounter despite how nostalgic he seems in the Gallis interview videos. I think he's more interested in Michigan football history that one might guess from a distance but actually prefers to spend his time actually focusing on his creed of "get a bit better every day."

Thanks for posting. That is really cool. That is the Harbaugh difference.

These are the moments I can't imagine him coaching anywhere else to close out his career...then the NCAA pops up to remind me why he may want to go back to the NFL.

The Family Legacy Wall is a brilliant idea.  Makes the football alums happy to see their entire family get some recognition.  Can't be anything other than a positive for recruiting...as it reinforces the long, successful history of Michigan Football...as well as the sense of family in the program.

so harbaugh was talking about the family wall on this week's Inside Michigan Football, and he dropped a cryptic "i probably shouldn't say anything, but i'm going to be coaching the son of one of my former players soon."  jansen was trying to figure it out, and harbaugh said "oh, it wasn't someone i coached since i got here."

anyone know who he might be referring to?  maybe the kid of one of his players in san francisco?

I'll have to watch this video later, but this sounds like an awesome idea!  And can I just toss out there the idea that the Glasgow family should get an 'Honorable Mention' family photo?  I mean, three walk-ons that saw extensive playing time as key components, and two of them played in the NFL.  If anyone gets a hat tip, its the Glasgow's!

That is beautiful. Now give this man the blank check contract. He cares more about this program, it's history and image than any coach I've seen in my lifetime.

I want to walk through that place.  Is anyone allowed or do you have to be a student? How does one get to see all of the stadium and Schembechler Hall?
