Michigan basketball recruiting international for 2022 class
Article on On3 about a 6’9 Lebanese player now playing in France being recruited by Michigan and a few others. He most likely won’t visit any schools but will just make a choice of schools. Michigan looks to be a strong contender here. Averages 17.4 ppg, 7.7rpg and 2 assists per game in the Lebanese Euro League. Looks like he would be a solid addition.
Thanks for the article link. I forgot to put his damn name in my post.
Youseff Khayat since I didn’t put it in the post lol. Good highlights on YouTube
Considering the Eurohoops article was from December I am guessing Khayat showed well during the spring.
I can only judge by what I see on small highlights on YouTube but he gives me some Franz vibes with his length, ability to contort his body, ball handling and shooting motion. Juwan must like what he sees and we’ve had good luck with international players here.
My new name will be MeanYou if he comitts.
That makes sense since Youseff is Arabic for Joseph.
Would this recruit be for this upcoming season?
Yes he’s a 2022 recruit so he would be here in the fall
Tell him about the bakeries. There’s very few places in the US that can match SE Michigan for Lebanese bakeries.
The article said Wake Forest, Xavier and others. I don’t know who the “others” are but I don’t see the first two matching up with Michigan as far as academics, culture, diversity, success for international players and athletics as the total package.
He’s since narrowed the list to UM, DePaul, Wake Forest, and Xavier
Double post.
Getting him for 2022 would be huge.
Don’t try to help him make a choice. Gotta think for Youseff, buddy.
International recruiting, almost as good as Mork Dontanio’s intergalactic recruiting strategy…..
*Mgoboard humor a-la 2014*
I've never seen a blonde Lebanese!. I digress. Juwan might need to fly to Lebanon to lock it down, because I read the kid will have to decide, without visiting any school. I think Juwan flew to Franz to lock it down but might be wrong.
I really like this kids film. Although he dunks funny and late, he's a heck of a prospect. Boy I hope we land him.
Did he fly to Franz, or Germany???
Landed the plane right on him... his wingspan was more than long enough to land a plane.
Both
No he’s right it was France. Germany would have made sense too but Juwan knows where it comes to having Wagners play at Michigan, one is good but not as nice as a Paris.

Some totally spurious conclusions:
Hasn't been much of a three point shooter until this year. FT% suggested to me probably still isn't, but his game-by-game actually looks pretty decent, as his % was dragged down by a recent 1-11 game (which he followed up with a 5-10 game). Looks like a good rebounder, and the steals totals suggest good defensive hands. Not much of a passer but he'll occasionally rack up 4-5 assists in a game. Not a shot blocker.
FYI, Ant Wright has a breakdown of Youssef here
Was a good breakdown. First time I heard Wright speak. Many here diss him in general but he did a good job with it.
Ant is a really good scout and does a great job breaking down a player’s strengths and weaknesses in his videos. People “diss” Him because he throws information at the wall just to see what sticks. Most of the “insider information” that he puts out on twitter turns out to be wrong.
Made his top 4 as of this morning.

His timeframe seems to be “soon” which has been interpreted as a couple of weeks. If he’s committed by early July, can he play in the August Euro trip?
Couldn't work out any better. The team can just pick him up in France in August, take him to Greece with them and then take him back to Ann Arbor for the school year. He certainly fills the need of a versatile wing defender that was such a glaring weakness last year. I'd love to see him get 4 years of development under Howard.
